Velotric Tempo: a 17.7 kg City eBike With a 350 W Motor, Mid-Step or High-Step Frames and Heart-Rate Pulse Mode

The Velotric Tempo is a lightweight city e-bike: 17.7 kg with its battery and 15.4 kg without it, per Velotric. A 350 W motor (650 W peak, 45 N·m) runs from a 36 V, 10.14 Ah (374 Wh) battery certified to UL 2271, rated by Velotric for up to 97 km on pedal assist and 64 km on throttle. It rolls on Kenda 700 × 42c puncture-resistant gravel tires with a rigid aluminum fork, Shimano 8-speed gearing and Shimano hydraulic disc brakes.

Velotric makes it in two frames, each in Regular and Large: the Mid-Step lowers the step-over height to make getting on and off easier, and the High-Step is for riders who want a sportier, more responsive ride. Pulse Mode adjusts the assist to your heart rate, with the armband included.

Colours: Forest Evergreen, Lightning Silver and Sunset Tangerine (shown as Orange in the colour picker).

⚠️ Canadian legal note: a motor at or under 500 W, on an adjustable speed cap

Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021. E-bike rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s statute says 30 km/h).

Velotric rates the Tempo’s motor at 350 W, with a 650 W peak. It ships set to 32 km/h. Velotric lists an adjustable range of 19–45 km/h, its Class 1/2/3 labels are the US classification system, not a Canadian category, and Velotric says the Tempo does not support Custom Mode or a throttle unlock in Class 3; settings above 32 km/h sit above the provincial line. Whether a bike with an adjustable speed cap, or a peak rating above 500 W, qualifies as a power-assisted bicycle is not settled, so check your province before riding on public roads.

Canadian e-bike laws by province → For a Velotric at or under the line with a mid-drive, suspension, fenders and a rack, the 500 W Discover M → ships set to 32 km/h on the same terms.

Good to know before you order

In the box: a heart-rate armband for Pulse Mode, a kickstand, an NFC key card and a toolkit, per Velotric. Fenders and a rear rack are not included; Velotric makes a rear rack and fenders designed for the Tempo.

Throttle: Velotric’s spec table lists a removable trigger throttle, and its feature section a detachable thumb throttle. Ask us and we’ll confirm which one ships.

Load: Velotric’s spec table gives a 150 kg maximum load; its guide gives 440 lb (200 kg) as the total including the bike. Plan within the lower figure, 150 kg.

Mid-Step Large: Velotric’s size chart for it prints the same stand-over, wheelbase and length as the High-Step Large chart. Call us before ordering that size and we’ll confirm its stand-over with Velotric.

Charging in winter: the battery won’t charge below 0 °C. Velotric’s guide says to charge it at 10–30 °C, so it comes inside to charge, and it lifts out with its key.

Watch Velotric’s Tempo Unboxing and Assembly Video

We have not filmed our own Tempo review yet, so this is Velotric’s own video on unboxing the bike and the at-home assembly steps listed under How It Arrives below.

“Tempo: How to unbox and assemble your Tempo” (3:22, uploaded 20 August 2026), from Velotric’s own YouTube channel, not made by Zeus.

What the Combination Does for a Canadian Rider

  • Light enough to carry — 17.7 kg, or 15.4 kg with the battery out, which Velotric says makes it easier to carry and transport.
  • A workout bike when you want one — Pulse Mode adjusts the assist to real-time heart rate to hold the effort level you choose, using the included armband or a compatible smartwatch.
  • Pavement and gravel paths — Kenda 700 × 42c puncture-resistant gravel tires, Shimano hydraulic disc brakes with 180 mm rotors, and an upright riding position.
  • A motor rated under the 500 W line — 350 W, shipped set to 32 km/h (see the legal note above).

Tempo Sizes, Fit and Measurements

Velotric sells four sizes: a Mid-Step and a High-Step frame, each in Regular and Large. Rider heights are from its spec table; the other figures are from its size-chart images. Inches and feet are our conversion of Velotric’s metric figures.

*Velotric’s Mid-Step Large chart prints the same stand-over (724 mm), wheelbase and length as its High-Step Large chart, and its size tabs label two charts “High-Step Regular”, so we print the chart as published and do not treat it as settled; call us before ordering that size. The Mid-Step Regular has the lowest stand-over of the four, 521 mm.

Key Features

  • 350 W motor, 650 W peak, 45 N·m — Velotric’s rating; a rear hub motor (its guide lists motor axle nuts, and the front hub is an unpowered NOVATEC).
  • SensorSwap: torque or cadence — Velotric describes torque as a supportive, natural boost and cadence as suited to long, flat roads.
  • 36 V, 10.14 Ah (374 Wh) battery — IPX7, certified to UL 2271, Samsung/LG 21700 cells certified to UL 2580, a 36 V, 2 A charger; removable and locked with a key.
  • Pulse Mode and 4 riding modes — with the included heart-rate armband or a compatible smartwatch (Garmin and Apple Watch among them), plus ride tuning.
  • 2.0″ left-mounted colour display — Bluetooth and NFC, app updates over the air, a 4.7 km/h walk mode, a USB-C port and a removable throttle.
  • Shimano 8-speed, 11–40T — a KMC 8-speed chain, a 46T narrow-wide chainring and 170 mm cranks.
  • Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, 180 mm rotors — front and rear; the levers cut the motor when you brake.
  • Kenda 700 × 42c puncture-resistant gravel tires — on aluminum rims; a NOVATEC front hub with a 12 × 100 mm thru-axle.
  • 6061 triple-butted aluminum frame and rigid 6061 fork — with internal brake routing.
  • Lights — a 500 lm headlight with an adjustable angle, and a rear light with a brake indicator and turn signals; IPX6.
  • A 660 mm bar and an adjustable 60 mm stem — a 30.9 mm × 350 mm seatpost with a quick-release clamp.
  • Apple Find My, Google Find Hub and NFC unlock — with the Velotric app.
  • UL 2849 and ISO 4210 — UL 2849 for the e-bike system, UL 2271 for the battery.

How It Arrives

Velotric’s guide says the bike ships partially assembled. In the box, per Velotric:

  • The Tempo, with its battery, charger, front light and display
  • A heart-rate armband for Pulse Mode, an NFC key card and the kickstand
  • Front and rear reflectors, a bell, and left and right pedals
  • The manual and app guide, and a toolkit: a Phillips screwdriver, a 15/8 mm wrench and 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2.5 mm Allen keys

At home you fit the handlebar, the front wheel, the front light, the bell and reflectors, and the pedals, then check the tires and charge the battery; the guide includes a table of recommended torque values. Your first month of Zeus Care includes assembly walkthroughs by phone or video.

The Honest Take: What to Know Before You Buy

  1. No suspension. A rigid aluminum fork and 42 mm gravel tires; the Discover 3 and Discover M have an 80 mm air fork.
  2. No fenders or rack in the box. Velotric makes both for the Tempo; the Discover 3 and Discover M come with them.
  3. The smallest battery of the Velotrics we sell. 374 Wh against 730 Wh on the Discover 3, and Velotric says the Tempo does not take its T1 range-extender battery.
  4. A 150 kg load limit, tied with the Breeze 1 for the lowest of the Velotrics we sell.

If you carry your bike, ride for fitness, or want a motor rated under the 500 W line, the Tempo is the lightest of the 11 Velotric models we sell.

Frequently Asked Questions

What riders ask about the Tempo

Where can I buy the Velotric Tempo in Canada?

Here, from Zeus eBikes Canada: order the Tempo online on this page. It ships from Canada with free Canada-wide shipping (no P.O. boxes or remote communities: call first), processed in 1–3 business days, then 2–7 business days in transit. Returns are 15 days from delivery on unused, unopened items, with a 15% restocking fee and return shipping paid by you. Your first month of Zeus Care is included, and we file warranty claims with Velotric for you. Questions before you order: 1-866-938-7580 or sales@zeusebikes.ca; to pay by Interac e-Transfer instead of card, email sales@ for an invoice.

Does the Velotric Tempo have a throttle? Does it support Custom Mode?

Yes, it has a throttle, removable, with up to 64 km of throttle-only range per Velotric. Velotric’s spec table calls it a trigger throttle and its feature section a detachable thumb throttle; ask us and we’ll confirm which one ships. Velotric says the Tempo does not support Custom Mode or a throttle unlock in Class 3. Its guide also lists a cruise control mode, entered with a long press on the remote. Pedal assist vs throttle →

How much does the Tempo weigh, and what is its weight limit?

17.7 kg (39 lb), or 15.4 kg (34 lb) with the battery out. Velotric says that is the same weight as its T1 ST Plus. The maximum load is 150 kg in Velotric’s spec table; its guide gives 440 lb (200 kg) as the total including the bike, so plan within 150 kg. E-bikes for heavy riders →

What class is the Tempo, how fast does it go, and can I ride it on Canadian roads?

Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021. E-bike rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s statute says 30 km/h). Velotric rates the Tempo’s motor at 350 W with a 650 W peak, and it ships set to 32 km/h, but Velotric lists an adjustable range of 19–45 km/h. It does not support Custom Mode or a throttle unlock in Class 3, per Velotric. Whether a bike with an adjustable cap, or a peak above 500 W, qualifies as a power-assisted bicycle is not settled, so check your province. Velotric’s Class 1/2/3 labels are US terms, not a Canadian category. Canadian e-bike laws by province →

How far does the Tempo go on a charge? Is there a range extender?

Velotric rates it for up to 97 km on pedal assist and 64 km on throttle, depending on assist level, rider weight, terrain, temperature and riding conditions. Velotric says it does not take the T1 series range-extender battery, and suggests carrying a second battery to swap. Long-range e-bikes →

What battery does it use, and how do I charge it?

A removable 36 V, 10.14 Ah (374 Wh) pack, IPX7, certified to UL 2271, with Samsung/LG 21700 cells certified to UL 2580; it locks in with a key. The charger is 36 V, 2 A. Velotric’s guide says to charge it at 10–30 °C; it will not charge below 0 °C or above 45 °C, and if it refuses, let it come to room temperature for at least an hour before trying again. Store it at 10–25 °C. E-bike battery guide →

Mid-Step or High-Step: which Tempo size fits me?

Velotric sizes it by rider height: Mid-Step Regular 147–165 cm (4′10″–5′5″), Mid-Step Large 160–180 cm (5′3″–5′11″), High-Step Regular 150–173 cm (4′11″–5′8″) and High-Step Large 168–193 cm (5′6″–6′4″). Velotric says the Mid-Step lowers the step-over to make getting on and off easier, and the High-Step is for a sportier ride. Its Mid-Step Large chart repeats the High-Step Large stand-over, so call us before ordering that size. See the size table →

Does the Tempo come with fenders or a rear rack?

No. Neither is in the box. Velotric makes a rear rack and fenders designed for the Tempo; the rack works with the MIK HD system for baskets, panniers, bags and child seats.

What tires does it use, and what pressure should they run?

Kenda 700 × 42c puncture-resistant gravel tires on aluminum rims. Velotric publishes no single pressure for it: its guide says to check by hand, inflate a tire that compresses easily until it no longer does, never above the tire’s maximum, and match the PSI printed on the sidewall.

What size seatpost does it take?

An aluminum 30.9 mm × 350 mm post with a quick-release clamp, per Velotric.

What is Pulse Mode, and does it work with my watch?

Velotric says Pulse Mode adjusts the pedal assist to your real-time heart rate to hold a steady effort. Pair the included heart-rate armband with the display, or a compatible smartwatch; Velotric names Garmin and Apple Watch among the supported devices.

When should I use torque sensor mode or cadence sensor mode?

Velotric’s answer: the torque sensor matches your pedalling effort, which suits stop-and-go riding and varied terrain; the cadence sensor gives a lighter, more consistent assist for longer, steady rides. SensorSwap lets you switch between them.

How powerful is the Tempo’s motor?

Velotric rates it at 350 W with a 650 W peak and 45 N·m of torque, a rear hub motor on a 36 V system. For more torque in a Velotric at or under the 500 W line, the Discover M is a mid-drive. Mid-drive vs hub motor →

Is the Tempo waterproof?

Velotric rates the bike IPX6 and the battery IPX7. Its guide says to clean the frame with a damp cloth and mild soap, that water damage and corrosion are not covered under warranty, and to store the bike in a clean, dry, ventilated place at 10–25 °C. Winter riding →

How does the Tempo arrive, and is assembly hard?

Velotric says it ships partially assembled, with a toolkit. You fit the handlebar, the front wheel, the front light, the bell and reflectors, and the pedals, then check the tires and charge the battery; the guide includes a table of recommended torque values. Your first month of Zeus Care includes assembly walkthroughs, and Velotric’s video is above. Velotric’s assembly and operation guide →

What warranty comes with the Tempo?

Velotric’s Canadian warranty policy (read 17 October 2026) covers the electrical components for 2 years: the motor, throttle, control panel, controller, wiring harness, lights, sensor, Find My and IoT modules, and charger, with the battery covered for up to 300 charge cycles in that time (Velotric says it is designed to keep up to 75% of its capacity over them). Other essential parts (suspension fork, stem, handlebar, headset, brakes except pads, bottom bracket, crankset, pedals, kickstand, rims, hubs, freewheel, derailleur and shifter) and accessories are covered for 1 year. Tires, tubes, brake pads, cables and housing, grips, chain, spokes, paint and graphics are not covered, and coverage is for the first owner. The same policy also says third-party components such as drivetrain, brake or suspension parts are not covered by it, and its 5-year frame line names only the T1 and T1 ST; where its wording leaves a question, we get Velotric’s answer for you before you buy. These are Velotric’s own published Canadian terms (the limited warranty printed in its guide applies to US purchases only), backed by Velotric in full. Velotric’s policy sends buyers who bought through a dealer to that dealer, which is us, and we handle the claim with Velotric for you. Your first month of Zeus Care is included: we diagnose the problem, file the claim with Velotric and follow it up. Zeus Care plans run $119 for 1 year, $229 for 2, $339 for 3 and $599 for 5; they are a service, not added parts coverage. Returns are 15 days from delivery on unused, unopened items, with a 15% restocking fee and return shipping paid by you. Warranty & Zeus Care →

Are there reviews of the Tempo?

There are no Zeus customer reviews of the Tempo yet. Velotric’s own Canadian page for it shows two video reviews from other YouTube channels: Ride Electric Reviews’ and TailHappyTV’s (both posted 18 March 2026).
