Zeus Wolverine Electric Hardtail
Zeus Wolverine — The Hardtail We Built Around What Canadians Kept Asking For
After years of selling eBikes to Canadians and listening to what they tell us — on the phone, over email, at pickup — the same wish list kept surfacing. More real range for cold winters. Lights and signals that make a bike road-ready out of the box. A frame that fits taller riders instead of cramping them. And trail capability without the weight and upkeep of full suspension. The Wolverine is the bike that list points to. Every spec on it is a decision we made on purpose: a 48V 20Ah Samsung pack — 960 Wh for range that survives a Canadian February; a 120 mm RST Vibe air fork with lockout for rough roads and light trail; TEKTRO 4-piston hydraulic discs and a Shimano CUES 9-speed drivetrain; full aluminium fenders, a 500-lumen headlight, and a brake light with turn signals. Offered in the Large frame only, sized and dialled for riders 170–196 cm.
This is not a stripped trail bike and it is not a soft commuter. It is the in-between most Canadians actually need: a do-everything hardtail that handles the commute, the gravel path, the grocery run, and the weekend trail on one charge of a battery that doesn’t quit when the temperature does. The 1000W Bafang rear hub motor delivers 100 Nm of torque for confident hills and quick starts, with a torque + cadence sensor so the power arrives smoothly instead of lurching. Max payload is a genuine 200 kg (440 lb) — rider, cargo, and gear.

⚠️ Know the law before you ride. The Wolverine’s 1000W nominal motor exceeds Canada’s 500W federal Power-Assisted Bicycle (PAB) limit, so it is not a federally classified PAB at any setting, even though it ships speed-limited to 32 km/h. Many provinces and municipalities permit higher-power eBikes off-road, on private property, or on specific trails while restricting them from PAB bike paths and lanes. The higher-speed mode (~47 km/h) is for private property and off-road use only. Confirm your local rules before every public-road or path ride. Provincial eBike laws →

The Zeus Wolverine.
Why We Built the Wolverine This Way
Most eBikes are designed to hit a price, then marketed to whoever will buy them. We approached the Wolverine from the other end: start with what Canadian riders keep telling us they wish they had, then choose the parts that deliver it. Here is the reasoning behind each major decision.
- 48V 20Ah Samsung battery — 960 Wh, not a token pack. Range complaints almost always trace back to two things: too few watt-hours, and cheap cells that fold in the cold. We went the other way — 960 Wh is one of the larger packs in this class, built on genuine Samsung lithium-ion cells. More usable range in summer, and range that actually holds up in a Canadian winter. The pack is removable with a key lock so you can charge it warm indoors. Winter range, explained →
- 1000W Bafang rear hub motor, 100 Nm, torque + cadence sensor. A hub motor is the right call for the riding most people actually do — flat-to-rolling roads, gravel, paths, and light trail. It is quiet, simple, and low-maintenance, with no extra gears to wear at the cranks. 1000W and 100 Nm give confident hill starts and overtakes, and the torque sensor means power builds with your effort instead of slamming on. Hub vs mid-drive →
- RST Vibe air fork — 120 mm travel, adjustable, with lockout. Air-sprung, not a cheap coil. You can tune the air pressure to your weight and the rebound to your taste, then lock it out for smooth roads and climbs. 120 mm of front travel is genuinely useful: it absorbs potholes, curbs, gravel, and roots without the weight, cost, and maintenance of a rear shock.
- Suspension seatpost — comfort the hardtail can’t give you alone. A suspension seatpost soaks up the bumps, cracks, and gravel buzz a rigid post passes straight to your body. Paired with the 120 mm front fork, it gives you front-and-rear comfort without the weight, cost, and upkeep of a full-suspension frame.
- TEKTRO 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes — 203 mm rotors, front and rear. This is real stopping power. Four-piston calipers clamping big 203 mm rotors haul a loaded bike down fast and fade-free, ride after ride, with none of the constant adjustment cable brakes need — exactly what you want on a heavier eBike carrying a rider, cargo, and a big battery.
- Shimano CUES 9-speed drivetrain — 11–46T cassette, 40T chainring. CUES is Shimano’s modern, eBike-oriented groupset — durable, smooth-shifting, and a clear step above the budget 7-speed setups that show up on cheaper bikes. The 11–46T range gives you a low gear for loaded climbs and enough top end for moving traffic.
- Full fenders + lights + turn signals — standard. The package that makes a bike road-ready on day one. Full aluminium fenders keep road spray off you. A 500-lumen integrated headlight and a brake-actuated taillight with turn signals make you visible and predictable in traffic and low light — no add-ons, no batteries to swap.
- Kenda 27.5″ × 2.4″ puncture-resistant tires. The right all-round width: grippier and more cushioned than skinny commuter tires, faster-rolling and lighter than fat tires. Puncture-resistant casing for fewer roadside repairs. The 27.5″ wheel rolls over obstacles confidently while staying nimble.
- Large frame only — done right, not stretched thin. Taller riders are the ones who most often tell us one-size eBikes leave them cramped. So we focused the Wolverine on the Large geometry — sized for 170–196 cm — and dialled the fit instead of compromising across a size run. More torque for big riders and hills →
None of these are filler specs. Each one answers a real, recurring piece of feedback from Canadian riders about what a daily eBike should actually do.
Key Features
- 1000W Bafang Rear Hub Motor — 100 Nm Torque — A premium-brand hub motor with confident hill starts and quick, quiet acceleration. Torque + cadence sensing delivers smooth, proportional power.
- 48V 20Ah Samsung-Cell Removable Battery — 960 Wh — One of the larger packs in its class, built on genuine Samsung lithium-ion cells with an integrated battery management system. Removable with a key lock for warm indoor charging — the key to winter range and battery longevity.
- RST Vibe Air Fork — 120 mm Travel — Air-sprung front suspension with adjustable air pressure, adjustable rebound, and a lockout for efficient road and climbing sections. Real travel for real Canadian road and trail surfaces.
- Suspension Seatpost — Absorbs bumps and road buzz for all-day comfort — the smart way to soften a hardtail’s ride without the weight of full rear suspension.
- TEKTRO 4-Piston Hydraulic Disc Brakes — 203 mm Rotors — Front and rear. Four-piston calipers and large 203 mm rotors deliver powerful, fade-resistant stopping with minimal maintenance — the brakes you want on a heavier eBike that moves quickly.

- Kenda 27.5″ × 2.4″ Puncture-Resistant Tires — The all-round width: cushioned and grippy for gravel and light trail, efficient enough for daily road miles, with puncture-resistant casing.
- Full Aluminium Fenders — Front & Rear — Keeps road spray, slush, and grit off you and the drivetrain. Rust-free aluminium for Canadian conditions.
- Integrated Lighting — 500-Lumen Headlight + Brake Light + Turn Signals — A bright, angle-adjustable headlight and a brake-actuated taillight with handlebar-controlled turn signals. Visible and predictable in traffic and low light, with no add-on lights to charge.

What You Should Know Before Buying (Honest Take)
- It only comes in the Large frame. The Wolverine is sized for riders roughly 170–196 cm (5’7″–6’5″). If you’re shorter than about 170 cm, this bike will feel too big — standover and reach won’t fit you. That’s a deliberate choice to serve taller riders properly, not a flaw, but it means the Wolverine isn’t the right bike for everyone. Call us and we’ll point you to a better-fitting model.
- 1000W means it’s not a federally classified PAB. Canada’s federal Power-Assisted Bicycle definition caps nominal power at 500W. At 1000W, the Wolverine sits outside that definition at any setting, even speed-limited to 32 km/h. Plenty of riders use higher-power eBikes legally off-road, on private property, and on specific trails — but rules vary by province and municipality, and some bike paths and lanes are PAB-only. Know your local rules before you ride. Provincial eBike laws →
- It’s a hub motor, not a mid-drive. For flat-to-rolling terrain, road, gravel, and light trail, the 1000W Bafang hub is quiet, reliable, and more affordable to maintain. For long, steep, technical mountain climbing, a mid-drive that gears through the cassette will out-climb it. If your riding is mostly big sustained climbs, look at the mid-drive Eunorau Urus 2.0 → instead. Hub vs mid-drive, explained →
- It’s a hardtail. The 120 mm air fork handles potholes, curbs, gravel, and light trail well. It is not full suspension — for rock gardens, drops, and sustained technical descents, a full-suspension eMTB is the right tool. The hardtail trade is lighter weight, lower maintenance, and a better all-round daily bike — and the suspension seatpost takes the edge off the rear so your body isn’t doing the job of a rear shock.
- The range figures are estimates. The 960 Wh Samsung pack is large, but the range numbers we quote are Zeus estimates scaled to the pack, not lab-tested results for this exact build. Your real range depends on your weight, terrain, assist level, tire pressure, wind, and temperature. Plan around the mixed real-world figure (~90–120 km), not the best-case Eco number.
- It’s a substantial bike to lift. With the big battery and fenders, the Wolverine is roughly 30 kg (about 66 lb). That’s a meaningful lift onto a car rack or up stairs. Plan for ground-floor storage or an elevator, and remove the battery (it lifts out with the key) before loading it onto a rack.
- 2.4″ tires are all-road, not fat tires. They’re a great all-round width, but they don’t float over deep snow or soft sand the way 4.0″ fat tires do. For dedicated deep-snow or sand riding, see our fat-tire eBike guide →.
- Use the lockout and the gears. Lock the fork out on smooth roads for efficiency, and shift the 9-speed to keep your cadence comfortable on hills. Neither is complicated — one ride and it’s automatic — but the bike rewards riders who use what it gives them.

- 180–190 cm (5’11″–6’3″): The Wolverine’s sweet spot — roomy cockpit, stable wheelbase, upright comfort.
- 190–196 cm (6’3″–6’5″): Strong fit at the top of the window; raise the saddle into the upper range for full leg extension.

Who Is the Zeus Wolverine For?
- Taller riders who are tired of being cramped. The Large-only frame, sized for 170–196 cm, gives a roomy cockpit and a long, stable wheelbase — the fit one-size eBikes never quite deliver for bigger riders.
- Year-round Canadian riders. The 960 Wh Samsung pack, full fenders, integrated lights, and turn signals are built for commuting through real Canadian weather and short winter days. Carry the battery inside to charge warm. Winter eBike guide →
- One-bike riders who want it to do everything. Commute on Monday, gravel path on Wednesday, grocery run on Friday, light trail on the weekend — the all-road tires, the 120 mm air fork, and the 960 Wh battery cover all of it on one charge. Urban eBike guide →
- Riders who carry gear. A 200 kg (440 lb) payload leaves plenty of headroom for panniers, a rear rack, and a fully loaded commute.
- Riders who want hydraulic brakes and real suspension without full-sus complexity. TEKTRO 4-piston hydraulics and a 120 mm air fork deliver control and comfort while staying lighter and lower-maintenance than full suspension.
- Backcountry and off-road access. The 1000W Bafang motor, 100 Nm of torque, and knobby Kenda tires handle gravel access roads, trails, and rough ground — useful for getting to a hunting camp, a cabin, or an off-grid spot where you need power and traction, not pavement manners.
Who it’s NOT for:
- Riders under ~170 cm (5’7″). The Large-only frame will be too big. Choose a smaller-frame or step-through eBike instead.
- Serious technical mountain bikers. A hardtail with a 120 mm fork isn’t built for rock gardens and sustained technical descents. A full-suspension mid-drive like the Eunorau Urus 2.0 → is the right tool.
- Riders who need a strictly PAB-classified, bike-path-legal eBike. At 1000W the Wolverine is not a federally classified PAB. If you need a 500W PAB for restricted paths, see our best eBikes guide → for PAB-class options.
- Deep-snow or pure-sand riders. 2.4″ tires aren’t fat tires. See the fat-tire guide → for flotation.
- Apartment dwellers without an elevator. At ~30 kg, the Wolverine is a real lift up stairs. Plan for ground-floor storage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Zeus Wolverine road-legal in Canada?
The Wolverine uses a 1000W nominal rear hub motor, which exceeds Canada’s federal Power-Assisted Bicycle (PAB) limit of 500W. That means it is not a federally classified PAB at any setting, even though it ships speed-limited to 32 km/h. Many provinces and municipalities permit higher-power eBikes off-road, on private property, or on specific trails while restricting them from PAB-designated bike paths and lanes. The higher-speed mode (~47 km/h) is for private property and off-road use only. Confirm the rules where you ride before every public-road or path ride. Provincial eBike laws →
What is the real range of the Wolverine?
The 48V 20Ah Samsung pack holds 960 Wh — one of the larger batteries in its class. These are Zeus estimates scaled to the pack, not lab-tested results for this exact build: up to ~150 km in Eco on flat terrain with light pedalling; ~90–120 km in mixed real-world riding; and ~45–55 km at full power. Plan around the mixed figure. Expect roughly 30–40% less in deep cold (below −5°C). Winter range, explained →
Why a Samsung battery, and why does 960 Wh matter?
Cells are where eBikes get cost-cut and where Canadian winter hits hardest. The Wolverine uses genuine Samsung lithium-ion cells in a 48V 20Ah (960 Wh) pack with an integrated battery management system. More watt-hours means more usable range; quality cells means that range holds up better in the cold and degrades more slowly over hundreds of cycles. The pack is removable with a key lock so you can charge it warm indoors — the single best habit for winter range and battery life.
Does it only come in one size?
Yes — Large only, sized for riders 170–196 cm (5’7″–6’5″). We focused on getting the Large geometry right for taller riders rather than compromising across a size run. If you’re under about 170 cm, the Wolverine will feel too big — call 1-866-938-7580 and we’ll recommend a better-fitting model.
Is it a hub motor or a mid-drive?
A 1000W Bafang rear hub motor with 100 Nm and a torque + cadence sensor. Hub motors are quiet, simple, low-maintenance, and ideal for flat-to-rolling road, gravel, and light trail. For long, steep, technical mountain climbing, a mid-drive geared through the cassette climbs better — see the Eunorau Urus 2.0. Hub vs mid-drive →
Is a hardtail enough, or do I need full suspension?
The Wolverine pairs a hardtail frame with a 120 mm RST Vibe air fork — adjustable air pressure, adjustable rebound, and a lockout. That front travel soaks up potholes, curbs, gravel, roots, and rough pavement — what daily Canadian riding actually throws at you — while staying lighter and lower-maintenance than full suspension. For genuinely technical singletrack (rock gardens, drops, sustained rough descents), a full-suspension eMTB like the Eunorau Urus 2.0 is the better tool. For everything short of that, the hardtail is the smarter, more versatile choice.
Is the battery removable, and how long does it take to charge?
Yes — the 48V 20Ah Samsung battery lifts out with a key lock for warm indoor charging. The included 48V 3A charger brings the 960 Wh pack from empty to full in roughly 7–8 hours. Never use a non-OEM or untested charger on any lithium-ion eBike battery — mismatched chargers and batteries are the leading cause of eBike fires per Toronto Fire Services data.
What protective gear should I wear?
A certified bicycle helmet every ride, plus gloves, eye protection, and proper enclosed shoes. The Wolverine’s off-road mode reaches roughly 47 km/h, so for trail and higher-speed off-road use add a more protective helmet and consider knee protection. Built-in front and rear lights with turn signals keep you visible and predictable in traffic and low light.
Are there customer reviews for the Wolverine yet?
The Wolverine is a newer addition to the Zeus lineup, so review volume is still building. The spec itself is built on years of feedback from Canadian riders about what they wished their last eBike had. For an honest read on whether it fits your terrain, height, and riding style before you order, call 1-866-938-7580 — real humans answer, and we’ll tell you plainly if another bike suits you better.
Does the Zeus Wolverine come with a warranty?
Yes — every Wolverine comes with a 3-year unlimited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship across the motor, battery, electrical system, and frame. The only exclusion is accidental damage — crashes, drops, impacts, and misuse. Because the Wolverine is a Zeus house-brand bike, claims are handled in Canada by our own team, not routed to an overseas factory. Full warranty terms →
How do I finance the Wolverine?
Multiple options at checkout: Klarna Pay-in-4 (0% interest, 4 biweekly payments), Shop Pay Instalments (0% interest, no credit check), or PayPlan by RBC for monthly payments over 3–60 months. Full financing guide — 7 ways to pay →
