West Biking Reflective Ankle Strap — 2-Pack
West Biking Reflective Ankle Strap — Two Straps, 14 Grams Each
The reason people stop riding to work in their own clothes is a grease stripe up the right trouser leg. A loose cuff finds the chainring on the second or third pedal stroke, and once it has been chewed once you start driving instead. This is the fix, and it has been the fix since long before anyone put a motor on a bike: a band that pulls the cuff in tight against your leg and holds it there.
What the modern version adds is a reflective stripe down the length of it. Ankle height is the best place on a rider to put reflective material, because it moves — a driver reads a rising and falling point of light as a person on a bike well before they read a stationary one.
Each strap is about 14 grams, adjusts from 35 to 39 cm around, and is 3.8 cm wide, in a hypalon, nylon and spandex weave with a hook-and-loop closure. Sold as a pair.

What It Does
- Keeps the cuff out of the chain — the whole job. Trouser leg pulled in tight, nothing loose hanging near the chainring.
- Reflective stripe at ankle height — the strip runs the length of the band, and it sits on the part of you that moves most.
- Hook-and-loop closure — on and off over a shoe with one hand, no buckle to thread in the cold.
- Elastic weave — hypalon, nylon and spandex, so it holds tension against the leg instead of sliding down.
- 14 grams — it lives in a jacket pocket or a pannier and you forget it's there.
- Adjusts 35–39 cm — free size, fits over normal and most lined winter trousers.
Why It Matters More on an eBike
Two reasons, and they compound. The first is that an eBike is the bike people ride in ordinary clothes — that's most of the appeal of a commuter eBike, and ordinary clothes have loose cuffs. The second is range. Assist means you leave later, go further, and come home in the dark more often than you would on an unassisted bike, which quietly makes you a night rider several months of the year. Being seen stops being a nice-to-have around the same time the clocks change. There's more on the visibility question in the Canadian eBike safety guide, and on riding through the dark half of the year in the winter eBike guide.
How to Wear It
Gather the trouser leg toward the inside of your ankle, wrap the strap over it just above the shoe, and press the hook-and-loop closed with the reflective stripe facing outward. It should be snug enough that the cuff can't billow and loose enough that you can slide a finger under it. If you're only wearing one, it goes on the chain side — the right leg on virtually every bike. Two is better once it's dark, because a car turning across you sees whichever ankle is facing it.
The Honest Take
This is a fabric band, not safety equipment, and the distinction matters. Reflective material is passive: it returns light to whatever source shone at it, so it does excellent work against headlights on a road and no work at all on an unlit path with nothing pointed at you. Run lights. This is what you add to lights, not what you use instead. The hook-and-loop is the part that ages — every velcro closure on earth collects lint and grips a little less each season, and this one is no different. And the 35–39 cm range is genuine: over a bulky insulated snow pant you'll be at the far end of it. For the job it's actually for, keeping a trouser leg out of a chainring and putting a moving reflector on the part of you drivers see first, it does that job for the life of the fabric.

Frequently Asked Questions
What comes in the box?
Two straps. One for each ankle, which is what you want if you're relying on them to be seen from both sides. If you only care about the chain, one goes on the chain side and the second is your spare.
Which leg does it go on?
The chain side is the one that matters for the drivetrain — the right leg on almost every bike. Wearing both gives a driver approaching from either side something to catch in their headlights.
Will it fit over winter trousers?
It adjusts between 35 and 39 cm around and is 3.8 cm wide, with elastic in the weave. Normal trousers and most lined winter trousers are comfortable. Over a thick snow pant it sits at the tight end of its range.
Does a reflective strap replace lights?
No. Reflective fabric only returns light that something shines at it, so it works against headlights and does nothing on an unlit path. Use it alongside a front and rear light. What it adds is motion — a reflector rising and falling with your pedal stroke reads as a cyclist far faster than a fixed dot.
What's it made of and how heavy is it?
A hypalon, nylon and spandex weave with a hook-and-loop closure, about 14 grams a strap. Hypalon is a synthetic rubber chosen for abrasion resistance.
What does it look like?
Black, with a reflective stripe down its length and a coloured accent — orange, green or grey depending on the run. Call 1-866-938-7580 before ordering if the accent colour matters to you.
