The bikes on this shelf, in our guide’s order
All figures are the makers’ own. Rider height, weight, tire and load were confirmed on each maker’s page on 18 October 2026 (heights shown in feet and inches and in centimetres); rated, peak and battery figures were confirmed in each bike’s own text the same day. — = a figure we did not confirm for this model on its maker’s page on 18 October 2026; the bike’s own page has its full specifications. Prices and stock are live from our store; a bike shows “Sold out” when no version can be ordered, and “(backorder)” after its price when it can be ordered only on backorder.
How we choose the bikes on this shelf
These are the 22 bikes our winter guide recommends, in the guide’s own order, with today’s prices, each maker’s tire width and the battery size the maker prints.
The road rules
Canada’s federal e-bike definition was repealed in 2021, and the rules are now provincial: they converge on a motor of 500W or less, assistance that stops at 32 km/h (in Nova Scotia since 19 October 2026) and working pedals. A bike rated over 500W, or two motors over 500W together, is not a road-legal power-assisted bicycle in any province at any mode setting.
12 of the 22 bikes on this shelf are rated over 500W by their makers. Check your province and municipality before public-road use: our laws guide goes province by province.
FAQ: winter electric bikes
Can you ride an e-bike in winter?
Yes. Plan around three things: tires for the surface you ride, brakes you trust in the wet, and a battery you bring indoors between rides. Our winter guide matches each bike on this shelf to a kind of winter riding.
How should I store an e-bike battery for the winter?
Follow your bike’s own manual: each maker sets the storage temperature and charge level for its pack. Bring a cold battery indoors and let it warm to room temperature before you charge it: charging a lithium-ion pack below freezing plates metallic lithium on its anode, a permanent loss of performance and safety (Battery University, BU-410).
