1000W Electric Bikes in Canada (2026): Rated Motors, Live Prices and the Road Rules

Every bike on this shelf but one has a motor its maker rates above 750W and up to 1,000W, all motors added together. The one exception is the Smartravel Rocket ST201F: Smartravel rates it at 1,200W (1,500W peak), so it is also on our 1500W shelf. 17 of them are in stock today, from $1,299 to $4,334 CAD. That puts each one over the 500W line the provincial e-bike rules converge on.

All figures are the makers’ own; prices are in CAD, live from our store. Rated = the maker’s rated (nominal, continuous or sustained) figure, all motors added; where a maker prints one figure without saying rated or peak, we use that figure. — = the maker does not print it. Figures read on the makers’ own pages between 6 and 18 October 2026. Prices and stock are live from our store; a bike shows “Sold out” when no version can be ordered, and “(backorder)” after its price when it can be ordered only on backorder. One listing sells several motors (the Eunorau Flash: 750W rear-drive, 1,000W mid-drive, or two 750W motors), so it sits on every shelf one of its versions fits.

How we choose the bikes on this shelf

We shelve by the motor’s rating, not its peak, because the rating is what the provincial e-bike definitions measure. Nova Scotia’s new definition, in force from 19 October 2026, is typical of how the provinces write it: the motors, “singly or in combination”, must have “a total continuous nominal power output rating” of 500 W or less (N.S. Reg. 221/2026, s. 3). So we add the motors together, read each figure on the maker’s own page, and where a maker prints two different figures for one motor, we print both instead of choosing one.

A factory limit does not move a bike down the ladder: where a maker ships a bike limited to 500W, we shelve it by the figure the maker prints for its motors, and the table marks it. Where a maker prints a rating, the rating decides the shelf and the peak never does. Where a maker prints only a peak and no rating, we shelve the bike at half that peak and mark it †: our estimate, shown beside the maker’s peak.

    What changes above 500W

    The road rules

Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021. E-bike rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s 30 km/h ended on 19 October 2026). Under that line, an e-bike is treated much like a bicycle. Over it, you’re into off-road or motor-vehicle territory — different rules, different insurance, different places you can ride.

Where you can ride differs by province and city: our laws guide goes province by province.

FAQ — 1000W electric bikes in Canada

Are 1000W e-bikes legal in Canada?
Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021. E-bike rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s 30 km/h ended on 19 October 2026). A 1000W motor is twice that line, so these bikes sit outside the provincial e-bike rules. Under that line, an e-bike is treated much like a bicycle. Over it, you’re into off-road or motor-vehicle territory — different rules, different insurance, different places you can ride. Where you can ride differs by province and city: our laws guide goes province by province.

    500W vs 1000W, or 750W vs 1000W: which do I need?
Start with where you will ride: on public roads and paths, the provincial e-bike rules stop at 500W; off-road, a higher rating gives the maker’s motor more continuous power for hills and loads. Our 500W vs 750W vs 1000W explained and our Best 1000W electric bikes in Canada guide go further.

    How fast is a 1000W e-bike?
Wattage alone does not set top speed: the maker’s controller setting, the gearing and the load do. Each bike’s own page prints the maker’s top-speed figure, and several makers ship a lower road setting than the top figure they print.
