Himiway D5 2.0 20" Full Suspension Fat Tire eBike
Himiway D5 2.0 20″ — The Compact Full-Suspension Fat Tire That Fits Everyone
The D5 2.0 20″ is Himiway’s answer to a simple question: what if a full-suspension fat tire eBike did not require you to be 5’8″ or taller to ride it? Compact 20-inch wheels, a 17-inch standover height, and seat height starting at just 20 inches mean riders as short as 4’11″ can finally ride a proper all-terrain fat tire machine without tiptoeing at stops. But this is not a small bike in capability — 750W hub motor, 90 Nm torque, 720 Wh battery, multi-link rear suspension with 130 mm travel, and a 400 lb payload capacity. It is the same D5 2.0 platform that Himiway built for serious all-terrain riding, just on smaller wheels with a lower centre of gravity.
The 20-inch wheels change the riding character. Lower centre of gravity means more stability at low speed and on uneven terrain. Quicker acceleration and more responsive handling in tight spaces — city streets, crowded paths, narrow trails. Easier storage and transport for apartment dwellers or anyone loading an eBike into a vehicle. The trade-off versus the 26-inch version is top-end cruising stability, which the larger wheels handle better on long highway-straight rides. If most of your riding is urban, mixed terrain, or trails with turns — the 20-inch is the better choice.

Why the 20-Inch D5 2.0 Changes Who Can Ride Fat Tire
Fat tire eBikes have a height problem. Most sit on 26-inch wheels with standover heights above 30 inches. If you are 5’2″, 5’4″, or even 5’6″ — you either ride on your toes or you do not ride at all. The D5 2.0 20″ fixes this without compromise:
- 20-inch wheels with 4.0-inch fat tires drop the standover to 17 inches and the minimum seat height to 20 inches. A 4’11″ rider can plant both feet flat at a stop.
- Full suspension — front fork (100 mm) + multi-link rear (130 mm) — this is not a hardtail pretending to be comfortable. The multi-link rear is real suspension with real travel, not an elastomer bumper.
- 0–60° adjustable stem — one stem fits riders from 4’11″ to 6’3″. Pull it upright for a cruiser position, angle it forward for a sportier reach. Tool-free adjustment.
- 400 lb payload — the compact frame does not mean a reduced weight rating. This bike carries as much as most full-size fat tire eBikes.
The D5 2.0 20″ does not exist to be a “smaller version” of the 26-inch D5. It exists because a huge portion of the riding population was locked out of fat tire eBikes by wheel size. Now they are not.
Key Features
- 750W Hub Motor — 90 Nm Torque, 1,100W Peak — Rear hub motor with serious torque for a hub drive. 90 Nm is enough to climb steep grades with a loaded rider and cargo. The 1,100W peak kicks in when you need it — hard starts, steep hills, soft sand or snow where the fat tires dig in. Hub motors are maintenance-free, do not require gear shifting for efficiency, and handle mud without the chain-binding issues that mid-drives face.
- Switchable Torque & Cadence Sensor — This is rare at this price. Most hub motor eBikes ship with cadence sensors only (on/off power delivery). The D5 2.0 lets you switch between torque sensing and cadence sensing based on your preference. Torque mode for a natural pedalling feel where assist matches your effort. Cadence mode for a more relaxed, consistent assist. Having both in one bike is a genuine advantage — you are not locked into one experience. Pedal assist vs throttle explained →
- 48V 15Ah Battery (720 Wh) — Samsung/LG Cells, UL 2271 Certified — Removable with a key lock. 720 Wh provides a rated range of 43–105 km depending on terrain, rider weight, and assist level. UL 2271 certification means the battery has passed safety testing for thermal runaway, overcharge, and short circuit protection — not all eBike batteries carry this certification. Fast charging supported — full charge in approximately 5 hours.
- Multi-Link Rear Suspension — 130 mm Travel — This is the standout feature. Most fat tire eBikes under $3,000 are hardtails with a suspension fork and nothing in the rear. The D5 2.0’s multi-link system provides 130 mm (5.1 inches) of rear wheel travel — genuine trail-level suspension that absorbs roots, rocks, potholes, and washboard gravel without transmitting the impact to your spine. Lockout available for efficient pedalling on smooth pavement.
- Front Coil Fork — 100 mm Travel — Coil spring with preload adjustment. 100 mm (3.9 inches) of travel handles urban potholes and light trail obstacles. Combined with the 130 mm rear, the total suspension package is more capable than many eBikes at twice the price.
- 3.5-Inch Colour TFT Display with Wi-Fi — Not a basic LCD. A full-colour TFT screen with a built-in Wi-Fi chip that enables over-the-air firmware updates. Connect to your home Wi-Fi and the display updates itself — no cables, no trips to a shop, no manual firmware flashing. Speed, battery level, assist mode, trip data — all readable in direct sunlight.
- Integrated Turn Signals — Built-in turn signals controlled from the handlebar. Most eBikes under $3,000 require aftermarket turn signal kits. The D5 2.0 ships with them factory-installed. A small detail that matters for urban safety and visibility.
- 20×4.0″ Fat Tires — Four inches of contact patch for grip on sand, snow, gravel, wet roots, and loose dirt. The 20-inch diameter rolls up and over obstacles less aggressively than 26-inch wheels, but the lower centre of gravity compensates with better stability on technical terrain. Maximum tire pressure: 20 psi — run them soft for grip or firm for pavement efficiency.
- Shimano 8-Speed Drivetrain — Reliable shifting across 8 gears. Adequate range for climbing and cruising. Not as refined as Shimano 9-speed or SRAM 11-speed, but on a hub motor bike where the drivetrain handles only human pedal input (not motor torque), 8 speeds is more than sufficient.
- Hydraulic Disc Brakes — 180 mm Rotors — Hydraulic, not mechanical. Consistent lever feel, strong stopping power in wet and dry conditions. 180 mm rotors front and rear provide enough thermal mass for sustained braking on long descents. Motor cutoff sensors engage the moment you squeeze the lever.
- IPX4 Water Resistance — Rated for splash and rain exposure. Ride through rain and puddles without worrying about the electronics. Not rated for submersion — do not ride through deep water crossings above the motor housing.

The Honest Take — What We’d Change
- 92 lbs is heavy. That is the consequence of full suspension + fat tires + a 720 Wh battery on a steel-reinforced hub motor frame. If you live in a third-floor walk-up, think carefully. If you have a garage or ground-level storage, the weight is irrelevant once you are riding.
- Hub motor, not mid-drive. At $2,799, you are paying a premium over the older Zebra D5 ($2,299), largely for the updated suspension, display, and sensor system. But the motor is still a hub drive. If mid-drive torque-sensor riding is what you want, the A7 Pro ($2,999) or D5 Pro ($2,999) are $200 more and deliver a fundamentally different ride experience.
- 5-hour charge time is acceptable, not fast. The battery supports fast charging, but 5 hours is still a significant wait if you drain the battery on a long ride and need it again the same day.
None of these are deal-breakers for the right buyer. The D5 2.0 20″ is built for riders who need a compact, accessible full-suspension fat tire eBike — and on that mission, it delivers.

Who Is the D5 2.0 20″ Best For?
- Shorter riders (4’11″–5’6″) — This is the primary reason the 20-inch exists. If every fat tire eBike you have sat on felt too tall, too stretched out, or required tiptoeing at stops, the D5 2.0 20″ was designed for you. 17-inch standover, 20-inch minimum seat height, adjustable stem. Flat feet on the ground.
- Urban riders who want fat tire capability — The 20-inch wheels are more manoeuvrable in tight spaces than 26-inch wheels. Quicker steering response, easier to navigate crowded bike lanes and city traffic. The lower centre of gravity adds confidence at low speed. Fat tires handle potholes, streetcar tracks, and construction debris that skinny-tire commuters dread.
- Riders who transport their eBike by vehicle — Smaller wheels mean a smaller overall footprint. Easier to load into an SUV, truck bed, or bike rack. If you drive to a trailhead, campsite, or cottage and ride from there, the 20-inch is more transportable than the 26-inch.
- Heavy riders — The 400 lb payload capacity is among the highest in any eBike category. The full suspension system absorbs impacts that would be punishing on a hardtail, and the fat tires spread the load across a wider contact patch.
- Year-round Canadian riders — Fat tires on snow and ice. Full suspension on frost heaves and spring potholes. IPX4 for rain. Hydraulic brakes for wet stopping. The D5 2.0 20″ handles Canadian conditions across all four seasons. Best winter eBikes in Canada →
Who it’s NOT for: Riders who want a mid-drive torque sensor experience — the A7 Pro ($2,999) or D5 Pro ($2,999) deliver that at a similar price. Riders who do long highway-straight cruises at high speed — the 26-inch D5 2.0 is more stable above 35 km/h. Anyone who cannot store or charge a 92 lb bike at ground level.

Choose the D5 2.0 20″ for compact sizing, full suspension, switchable torque sensor, 400 lb payload, and the best display in the lineup. Choose the Zebra D5 at $2,299 if you want the biggest battery (960 Wh) and do not need full suspension or torque sensing. Choose the D5 Pro at $2,999 if mid-drive torque-sensor riding matters more than suspension travel. Choose the C5 Ultra at $2,499 for a motorbike-style full-suspension design with 960 Wh at a lower price.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the real-world range?
Himiway rates the D5 2.0 20″ at 43–105 km (27–65 miles). Real-world range depends heavily on terrain, rider weight, assist level, and temperature. On flat pavement in PAS 2–3, expect the higher end. On hilly trails in PAS 5 with a heavy rider, expect the lower end. Winter cold reduces range by 15–30%. Budget for approximately 50–70 km of mixed riding as a practical estimate.
Can a short rider actually ride this bike?
Yes — that is the entire point of the 20-inch model. Minimum seat height of 20 inches and a 17-inch standover height accommodate riders as short as 4’11″. The 0–60° adjustable stem lets you position the handlebars closer to your body. If you are 5’0″ and have been told every fat tire eBike is too big, test this one.
What is the difference between torque and cadence sensor mode?
Torque mode measures how hard you push the pedals — push harder, get more assist. It feels natural and responsive, like having stronger legs. Cadence mode simply detects whether the pedals are spinning — the motor delivers a fixed level of assist regardless of your effort. Torque mode is better for exercise and natural riding feel. Cadence mode is better for relaxed cruising. The D5 2.0 lets you switch between both. Full guide to pedal assist vs throttle →
Does it come with fenders and a rack?
Yes — both front and rear fenders and an integrated rear rack are included in the box. The rack supports standard pannier bag mounting systems, so you can add cargo capacity from day one. No aftermarket accessories needed for weather protection or carrying gear.
How heavy is it?
Approximately 92 lbs (42 kg) with the battery. This is heavy. Full suspension, fat tires, a 720 Wh battery, and a hub motor add up. If you need to carry the bike up stairs regularly, consider a lighter commuter eBike. If you store at ground level and ride from there, the weight is irrelevant once you are in the saddle.
How does the Wi-Fi display work?
The 3.5-inch TFT display has a built-in Wi-Fi chip. Connect it to your home network and it can receive over-the-air firmware updates — bug fixes, feature improvements, and calibration changes pushed by Himiway without requiring cables or a shop visit. The display also shows speed, battery level, assist mode, trip data, and odometer.
How do I finance this bike?
Multiple options at checkout: Klarna Pay-in-4 (0% interest, 4 biweekly payments), Shop Pay Instalments (0% interest, no credit check), or PayPlan by RBC for monthly payments over 3–60 months. Full financing guide →
