Ridstar Q20: Specs, Two U.S. Safety Warnings, and the Bikes We Sell Instead
The Ridstar Q20 is a 20-inch fat tire e-bike with moped styling, a 1500W motor, a 48V 20Ah battery and shocks at both ends. We no longer sell it. In 2026 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission twice told owners to stop riding it: once for fire, once because the front wheel can detach. Below are the Q20’s published figures, what those warnings say, and the four bikes we stock for riders who wanted a Q20.

Two U.S. Stop-Use Warnings Name the Ridstar Q20
- Fire, March 19, 2026. The CPSC warned consumers to “immediately stop using Ridstar Q20 and Q20 Pro e-bikes”, citing 11 reports of fire, including one burn injury and five reports of smoke inhalation. It told owners to “remove the battery from the e-bike immediately” and dispose of it as hazardous waste. It says the maker, Huizhou Xingqishi Sporting Goods Co., Ltd., “has refused to agree to an acceptable recall”; the company objects to the warning. Read the CPSC warning →
- Front wheel, June 25, 2026. A second warning names the Q20 and Q20 Lite: “The front wheel can detach without warning.” The CPSC cites 32 reports, including 31 reports of injuries such as concussions and broken bones, and tells owners to stop using the bikes and dispose of them. Is the Ridstar Q20 Street Legal in Canada?
⚠️ No. ridstar.com, a Ridstar dealer, lists a 1500W motor and tested top speeds of 28 to 33 mph (45 to 53 km/h). No provincial e-bike rule allows assistance past 32 km/h (Newfoundland and Labrador’s Act has no e-bike definition), so no province lets the Q20 ride roads, bike lanes or paths as an e-bike. How fast does the Ridstar Q20 go?
ridstar.com, a Ridstar dealer, lists tested top speeds of 28 to 33 mph (45 to 53 km/h). Every one of those figures is past the 32 km/h that provincial e-bike rules allow, which is why the Q20 cannot ride Canadian roads as an e-bike.
What is the Ridstar Q20’s seat height, and how tall do I need to be?
Ridstar prints no seat height; its own 2025 page and ridstar.com both size the Q20 for riders 5′4″ to 6′2″ (163–188 cm). YVY’s drawing of its C20, a bike that ridstar.eu (another Ridstar dealer) labels “same as Q20”, gives a 36-inch (91 cm) seat height and a 33-inch (84 cm) standover. To set the saddle for your leg, our US sister store, RedTail eBikes, works out the distance from the saddle top to the pedal axle for each height in that window: 33.3 in (85 cm) at 5′4″ to 39.3 in (100 cm) at 6′2″, measured from the pedal, not the ground (RedTail’s Q20 saddle table).
How much does the Ridstar Q20 weigh, and what is its weight limit?
ridstar.com gives a weight of 66 lb (30 kg) and a maximum load of 330 lb (150 kg), rider and cargo together.

Neither the U.S. nor Canada lists a recall. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has instead issued two stop-use warnings naming the Q20, for fire (March 19, 2026) and for a front wheel that can detach (June 25, 2026); in the first, it says the maker “has refused to agree to an acceptable recall”. Both cover U.S. sales. Health Canada’s recall database had no Ridstar entry on October 28, 2026. If you own a Q20, call us at 1-866-938-7580 before you ride it again.
Is YVY the same as Ridstar? Is the YVY C20 the same bike as the Q20?
Ridstar’s official site, ridstar.net, sells Ridstar-branded bikes. Two Ridstar dealers sell YVY-branded ones: ridstar.com lists YVY models next to Ridstar’s, and ridstar.eu says its YVY C20 is “technically identical to the Ridstar Q20”, offered “under a different model name”, and labels it “YVY C20 (same as Q20)” (read October 28, 2026). Neither CPSC warning names the YVY C20. We stock YVY’s 1,500W version as the YVY Upgraded C20/K20 1500W; our YVY C20 review goes through its record in detail.
Can I still buy a Ridstar Q20 in Canada?
Not from us: we no longer sell the Q20 and are not restocking it, and Ridstar’s official site, ridstar.net, did not list the Q20 1500W when we checked on October 28, 2026. If you came here for a Q20, the YVY C22 is the bike we suggest first, and the Z8, GT33 and M20 above are the alternatives.
How far does the Ridstar Q20 go on a charge?
Ridstar lists 50 miles (80 km) on the throttle and 70–75 miles (113–121 km) with pedal assist, from a 48V 20Ah battery (960 Wh by our arithmetic). Ridstar names no speed or rider weight for those figures. Our US sister store, RedTail eBikes, computed them for an 82 kg (180 lb) rider on level pavement, on the throttle: about 90 km at 24 km/h, 64 km at 32 km/h, and 72 km at Ridstar’s 150 kg (330 lb) load limit. We suggest the YVY C22 first: YVY rates it at 1500W peak with 90 Nm and gives it a 48V 25Ah battery (1,200 Wh) and an app with an anti-theft alarm. The Riding Times Z8 / Z8 Pro costs least and comes with one battery or two, the Riding Times GT33 has the biggest single battery and room for a second, and the Samebike M20 is the retro pick. Of those three, the M20 lets the most riders rest both feet flat at a stop: 72 of 100 at 5′8″, against 38 on the Z8 Pro and 22 on the GT33, in measurements by our US sister store, RedTail eBikes.
