A Moto-Style Fat Bike: 1000W Bafang, 100 Nm, Full Suspension and a Banana Seat. Built for Off-Road.

The Recon is Taubik’s moto-inspired fat bike. Taubik lists a 1000W Bafang rear hub with 100 Nm, a 48V 20Ah Samsung battery it calls 960 watt, 20×4.0″ fat tires on mag wheels, front suspension with 80 mm of travel plus a rear coil, Zoom hydraulic brakes on 180 mm rotors and a Shimano 7-speed drivetrain.

Taubik says it is “built for riders who want bold style, strong performance, and a more aggressive e-bike feel”. It adds a long banana seat, a built-in storage compartment, a twist throttle, an LCD with a USB charging port, and, in the brochure, front and rear lights with turn signals.

Its 1000W motor puts it outside the provincial e-bike rules on public roads, and Taubik has published a brochure for it rather than a full manual. Both are covered below.

⚠️ Canadian legal note: this is an off-road bike

Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021. E-bike rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s statute says 30 km/h). Taubik prints this motor as 1000W without saying whether that is its rated or peak output, lists the top speed as “32 km/h (50km/h off road only)”, and its own FAQ says “500 watts is the maximum approved in Canada to still be considered a bicycle without the need for licensing.”

So on public roads, bike lanes and multi-use paths it is outside the e-bike rules. Ride it on private land you have permission to ride and on trails whose owner or manager allows e-bikes of this power. What riding it on a public road would require differs by province (in Alberta, a machine over 500W needs a licence, registration and insurance), so check yours first.

Want a Taubik fat-tire bike with a 500W motor? The Westridge 4T has one; Taubik’s spec table and manual list 32 km/h (a feature paragraph on its page says 41 km/h). Check the rules in your province and municipality before public-road use. Start with our Canadian e-bike law guide → or browse 500W e-bikes →

What the Combination Does Off-Road

  • Climbs and pulls. 1000W and 100 Nm in Taubik’s figures, with a torque sensor in the brochure.
  • Soaks up rough ground. Front suspension with 80 mm of travel and a rear coil, on 20×4.0″ tires.
  • Goes further. A 48V 20Ah battery; up to 120 km per charge on Taubik’s page. Battery guide →
  • Carries your kit. A frame-integrated hard-case storage compartment. Fat-tire e-bikes →

Key Features

  • 1000W Bafang rear hub, 100 Nm — “1000W Bafang rear hub motor” and “100 N.M of Torque” on Taubik’s page; Taubik does not say whether 1000W is the rated or the peak figure.
  • Torque sensor — In the brochure (French: “Capteur de couple”); 5 levels of pedal assist on the page.
  • Twist throttle — “Twist throttle included” on the page; “3/4 Twist Throttle” in the brochure. Pedal assist vs throttle →
  • 48V 20Ah Samsung battery — “960 WATT BATTERY” on the page; “48V20Ah (21700 cells) Certified in Accordance with UL2271” in the brochure. Charges in 4–6 hours.
  • Full suspension — Front fork with 80 mm of travel and a rear coil (page); Trama D4K-135 forks (brochure).
  • Zoom hydraulic disc brakes — 180 mm rotors.
  • 20×4.0″ fat tires on mag wheels — CST BFT Adventure in the brochure.
  • Shimano 7-speed — Altus with trigger shifter, per the brochure.
  • Banana seat and storage — An “extended banana-style seat” and a built-in storage compartment.
  • Lights and display — Integrated LED headlight and taillight (page); turn signals (brochure); LCD with a USB charging port.

How It Arrives

Taubik has not published how assembled the Recon arrives in the page, brochure or files linked as manuals that we read:

Assembly walkthroughs by phone or video are included in your first month of Zeus Care: call 1-866-938-7580.

The Honest Take: What to Know Before You Buy

  1. It is an off-road bike, by Taubik’s own numbers. 1000W printed, against the 500W its own FAQ names as the line for a bicycle, and a top speed of “50km/h off road only”. If you need an e-bike for roads and paths, see the legal note above.
  2. No full manual yet. The files Taubik links as manuals carry the brochure’s text, so there is no published temperature range, assembly guide or rider-age line for this model in what we read.
  3. Heavy. 38 kg (85 lbs) on Taubik’s page.
  4. Two warranty statements. “1-year limited warranty” on the Recon page; frame 2 years and electrical 1 year on Taubik’s warranty page. Ask us which applies.

Inside those limits it is a powerful, fully suspended, moto-style fat bike for private land and permitted trails, from a Canadian-owned brand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Recon legal on Canadian roads?

Not as an e-bike on public roads. Taubik prints the Recon’s motor as 1000W, lists its top speed as “32 km/h (50km/h off road only)”, and its own FAQ says “500 watts is the maximum approved in Canada to still be considered a bicycle without the need for licensing.” Treat the Recon as an off-road bike for private land you have permission to ride and for trails whose owner or manager allows e-bikes of this power, and check the rules in your province and municipality before public-road use. Our Canadian e-bike law guide →

Is there a manual for the Recon?

Taubik’s Recon page links an “English Manual” and a “French Manual”; the files they open carry the same text as its brochure (English, French). We have not found a full owner’s manual for the Recon, so figures that Taubik’s other manuals give (temperature range, how assembled it arrives) are not published for this model in what we read. Ask us and we will get you Taubik’s answer.

How far does it go on a charge?

Taubik’s page says up to 120 km per charge from its 48V 20Ah Samsung battery (“960 WATT BATTERY”). Taubik’s FAQ, written for its e-bikes in general, says the 100 km range it quotes was tested with a 160 lb rider on flat ground, no cargo, pedal-assist level 1 and moderate temperatures; it gives no test conditions for the Recon’s 120 km. A full charge takes 4–6 hours, per the page. Our e-bike battery guide →

How much can it carry, and how heavy is it?

Taubik’s page says a maximum load of 150 kg (330 lbs) and a weight of 38 kg (85 lbs).

Does it have storage?

Yes. Taubik lists a built-in storage compartment (“Frame-Integrated Hard Case Storage” in the brochure) to keep “your everyday essentials secure and within easy reach”.

Can I ride it in winter?

Taubik has not published a temperature range for the Recon in its page, brochure or the files linked as manuals. For comparison, the manual for its other 1000W bike, the Westridge 4T Off-Road, says not below 0 °C. Taubik’s warranty excludes damage from prolonged exposure to rain, snow or moisture, storage in extreme cold and corrosion from salt. Our winter e-bike guide →

Where are Taubik bikes made?

Taubik describes itself as “a proudly Canadian-owned electric bike company”. Its product pages, manuals and policies that we read do not say where the bikes are manufactured, so we will not guess: ask us and we will tell you what Taubik tells us.

What warranty does it come with?

Taubik’s Recon page says “1-year limited warranty”. Taubik’s published warranty covers the frame for 2 years and the electrical components (motor, battery, controller, display and wiring) for 1 year, from the original retail purchase date, for the original purchaser. It excludes wear parts such as tires, brake pads and rotors, chains, cassettes, derailleurs and shifters (unless defective at delivery), and damage from overloading, unauthorized modifications, environmental exposure or missed maintenance; labour is not covered unless Taubik approves it in writing. Ask us which applies to the Recon before you order. Your first month of Zeus Care is included: we diagnose the problem, file the claim with Taubik and follow it up. Zeus Care plans run $119 for 1 year, $229 for 2, $339 for 3 and $599 for 5; they are a service, not added parts coverage. Returns are 15 days from delivery on unused, unopened items, with a 15% restocking fee and return shipping paid by you. Warranty & Zeus Care →
