Addmotor SpytanX: a Folding Reverse Electric Trike With Two Tilting Front Wheels

The Addmotor SpytanX is a folding reverse electric trike for adults: two 16-inch front wheels on a 16-connecting-rod front end that lets both of them tilt into a turn, one 16-inch rear wheel driven by a rear-mounted hub motor, hydraulic disc brakes on all three wheels and a 48 V 20 Ah battery with Samsung cells. Addmotor sizes it for riders 4′9″ to 5′9″, limits it to 24 km/h and rates it for up to 145 km on pedal-assist level 1.

The three other trikes in our comparison below carry their pair of wheels at the back. The SpytanX carries them up front, and Addmotor’s own technical article makes the case for it: when you brake, weight shifts forward onto both front tires, and the tilting front end lets both front wheels lean into a corner instead of staying rigid like a non-tilting trike. It folds to 104 × 88 × 80 cm without the saddle, and its standover height is 28.4 cm (11.2 in).

Addmotor built it with golfers in mind, and its fit range suits shorter riders. Three things to weigh first: it tops out at 24 km/h, it weighs 47 kg with the battery, and Addmotor’s own pages give two different motor ratings, so ask us which one ships before you buy.

Olive Green is on pre-order at Addmotor (17 October 2026)

Addmotor makes the SpytanX in two colours: Neptune Blue (listed here as Blue) and Olive Green (listed here as Green). On 17 October 2026, Addmotor Canada’s page showed Olive Green as a pre-order, with no ship date.

Both colours can be ordered here, and the free front rack comes with either. For Olive Green, call 1-866-938-7580 before you order and we’ll give you the current ship date. If your trike does not arrive within 30 days of the delivery date we give you, you can cancel for a full refund (our shipping policy), and Addmotor’s warranty policy extends pre-order warranties by 60 days.

⚠️ Canadian legal note: ask which motor ships

Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021. E-bike rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s 30 km/h ends on 19 October 2026).

The SpytanX tops out at 24 km/h, under that speed. Addmotor prints its motor two ways: 250 W in the FAQ on its Canadian page, and 750 W (1,400 W peak) on its US page and in its technical article. At 250 W it would sit inside the 500W figure; at 750 W it would not. Higher-power e-bikes are outside those definitions: private land with permission, or where your province’s off-road rules allow.

Ask us which motor ships before you buy, and check your province’s rules before riding on public roads. Canadian e-bike laws by province → For a trike with a 500 W motor on its maker’s page, see the Eunorau ONE-TRIKE 2.0.

What the Two Front Wheels Change

  • Two wheels up front, both able to tilt. Addmotor’s 16-connecting-rod front end makes “the two front wheels flexible for tilting steering”, and its technical article says the front end lets both wheels lean into a turn.
  • Braking where the weight goes. When you brake, weight moves forward; Addmotor’s article says that loads both front tires “for more controlled deceleration on turf or paved paths”. Each of the three wheels has its own hydraulic disc with a 180 mm rotor, and a parking brake holds the trike when you park on an incline.
  • Sized for shorter riders. Addmotor fits it to riders from 4′9″, the lowest starting height of the four trikes in our comparison, with a 28.4 cm standover and a saddle that sets from 70 to 87 cm.
  • Folds for the car. 104 × 88 × 80 cm with the saddle off. Addmotor’s FAQ says it typically fits most larger SUVs; its product description says most SUVs, in three easy steps.
  • Made with golf in mind. Slick-tread 16 × 4.0 in fat tires front and rear, which Addmotor says do less damage to grass on a golf course, and a butterfly handlebar you can hold anywhere along its length.

*Addmotor prints 149–180 cm beside 4′9″–5′9″; the imperial range works out to 145–175 cm (our arithmetic). If you are near either end, call us with your height and inseam. **On the same row Addmotor gives metric tire figures (40.5 × 7.6 cm front, 16 × 10.1 cm rear) that do not convert from its 16 × 4.0 in, which its page repeats twice more, so we print the inch size only.

Key Features

  • Rear-mounted hub motor, 90 N·m, with a torque sensor: Addmotor rates it at 90 N·m and pairs it with a torque sensor, which reads how hard you press the pedals, and 7 levels of pedal assist. The power rating appears two ways (250 W in Addmotor Canada’s FAQ; 750 W with a 1,400 W peak on its US page and in its technical article), so ask us which ships.
  • 48 V 20 Ah battery with Samsung cells: UL-certified, per Addmotor’s Canadian page, which adds that it “is certified in the US and Canada”; Addmotor’s technical article names UL 2271, 21700 cells and 960 Wh. It is removable, charges in about 6–7 hours on the included 48 V 2 A charger, and Addmotor’s warranty page says its batteries last about 800 charge cycles.
  • Hydraulic disc brakes on all three wheels: a 180 mm rotor on each wheel, plus a parking brake.
  • Front suspension on both front wheels: Addmotor says it absorbs bumps and obstacles for more control on rough surfaces.
  • Shimano 7-speed: a Shimano 7-speed rear derailleur and a KMC stainless chain.
  • Thumb throttle, 5-inch display: Addmotor Canada’s spec table lists a left-handed thumb throttle (its technical article says a right-hand half-twist), an Addmotor 5-inch LCD display and a 25 A controller.
  • Lights on the main battery: a headlight, and a taillight with a brake-light function.
  • Folding 6061 aluminum frame, with a backrest saddle and aluminum double-wall rims.

How It Arrives, and Assembly

Addmotor ships the SpytanX 85% pre-assembled (its figure), with the removable battery and the included charger, and your order from us comes with Addmotor’s free front rack. Addmotor publishes no full box list for the SpytanX: its product description says it is “equipped with golf stand bag carrier and sand bottle”, while its FAQ says it “lacks a built-in holder” for a golf bag, so call us if those matter to you and we’ll confirm what ships.

  • Check the trike before you sign for it: Addmotor’s 5-day rule for shipping damage, and who signs, are under Warranty and Shipping below.
  • Addmotor’s note on the derailleur: it is adjusted slightly outward at the factory so it does not rub the wheel. Addmotor says no further adjustment is needed and normal use is not affected.
  • Keep the box and packaging: Addmotor’s warranty asks owners to keep both for the length of the warranty.
  • Your first month of Zeus Care includes assembly walkthroughs by phone or video.

The Honest Take: What to Know Before You Buy

  1. 24 km/h is the ceiling. Both of Addmotor’s pages list 15 mph (24 km/h), and its US FAQ says the limit “cannot be legally unlocked”. The other three trikes in our comparison list 32 km/h. On golf paths and neighbourhood streets that rarely matters; on a long commute it adds time.
  2. Addmotor’s figures disagree in four places. Motor 250 W or 750 W; payload 380 lb or 127 kg (280 lb); weight 109 lb or 105 lb; throttle left thumb or right half-twist. We print each with its source. Call us before you order and we’ll get Addmotor’s answer for the unit that ships.
  3. 47 kg, and a fit range of 4′9″ to 5′9″. It folds, but it is still 47 kg to lift into a car with the battery in. Riders over 5′9″ fit Addmotor’s Arisetan II M-360 (5′7″–6′6″) better.

If you are between 4′9″ and 5′9″ and ride golf paths, paved trails and neighbourhood streets at an easy pace, those trade-offs buy you two tilting front wheels, a hydraulic disc on every wheel and a trike that folds into the back of an SUV.

Warranty: Addmotor’s terms, backed by Addmotor in full

Addmotor’s limited warranty covers manufacturing defects in material or workmanship, counted from the date of purchase. We file and follow every claim for you.

  • Frame: 2 years
  • Motor: 2 years
  • Battery (20Ah, the size on this trike): 2 years
  • Fork, stem, handlebar, headset, seat post, lights, bottom bracket, rims, wheel hubs, derailleur, throttle, wiring harness, controller and LCD display: 1 year

It does not cover normal wear or consumables (tires, tubes, brake pads, rotors, bearings, cables, grips, chains, cassettes and spokes), theft or vandalism, or damage from accidents, misuse, neglect, commercial use, modifications, improper assembly, maintenance or repair, water, extreme or stunt riding, or not following the owner’s manual. Battery damage from a wrong or damaged charger, improper storage or extreme temperatures is excluded too, and Addmotor pays for a repair at another shop only when it approves the quote before the work is done.

Check the trike when it arrives. Addmotor asks for shipping damage, including missing pieces, to be reported within 5 days of receiving the trike, with dated photos of the damaged part and of the box, and for visible damage to be noted on the carrier’s bill of lading before you sign. Keep all the packaging until the inspection is finished. Tell us right away and we file it with Addmotor.

Your first month of Zeus Care is included: assembly walkthroughs, remote diagnostics, maintenance help and claim handling, by phone, email or video. Zeus Care plans continue it for 1, 2, 3 or 5 years ($119, $229, $339 or $599). Zeus Care is a service: it does not add warranty coverage.

Shipping & Delivery

  • Shipping: Free shipping to all 10 provinces.
  • Ships from: Canada. Addmotor dispatches Canadian orders from its warehouse in Aurora, Ontario.
  • Timing: We process your order within 1–3 business days. Addmotor’s Canadian shipping guide says an in-stock order leaves its Aurora warehouse within 2–10 business days of order confirmation (its general FAQ says 1–2), and transit time depends on how far you are from Aurora.
  • Tracking: By email, as soon as the trike ships.
  • Delivery: Addmotor uses FedEx, UPS or Purolator for most bikes, and an adult over the age of 18 has to be there to sign for the delivery. If a delivery truck cannot reach your address, the carrier may ask you to collect the trike at a location it names.
  • Where we deliver: Addmotor does not ship to Yukon, the Northwest Territories or Nunavut, and we do not ship to P.O. boxes. If you live in a remote community, call us before you order.

Returns: 15-day returns from delivery on an unused, unopened trike in its original packaging (15% restocking fee; you pay return shipping). A trike that arrives factory-defective, with under 10 km of use, is a dead-on-arrival case: tell us within 14 days of delivery and we help arrange a refund or a warranty repair.

Frequently Asked Questions

What riders ask about the SpytanX

What is a reverse trike, and what is a trike with two front wheels called?

A reverse trike has two wheels in front and one behind, the opposite of a conventional trike. Addmotor’s technical article says the SpytanX “employs a reverse-trike configuration, meaning it has two wheels in front and one in the rear”, and Addmotor’s own page title for it is “Reverse eTrike - 2 Front Wheel eBike”. The “Reverse” in its name describes that layout. Electric trikes in Canada →

Does the SpytanX have a reverse gear?

Not that Addmotor lists. “Reverse” refers to the two-front-wheel layout. Addmotor’s Canadian SpytanX page, its US page and its SpytanX technical article (all read 17 October 2026) list no reverse gear, reverse mode or reverse button; what the SpytanX does have is a parking brake that holds it when you park on an incline. Ask us before you order if backing up under power matters to you.

Is a reverse trike more stable than a regular trike?

Addmotor makes the case for its own design: its technical article says two front wheels give more controlled braking, because forward weight transfer loads both front tires, plus more confident low-speed cornering and straighter tracking in crosswinds, and that the tilting front end lets both front wheels lean into a turn. Those are Addmotor’s claims, not our test results. A conventional trike such as the CITYTRI E-310 has its two wheels at the back with a rear differential. If stability is your main concern, call us and we’ll talk through how and where you ride.

Can I ride the SpytanX on public roads in Canada?

Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021. E-bike rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s 30 km/h ends on 19 October 2026). The SpytanX is limited to 24 km/h. Addmotor prints its motor rating two ways (250 W in its Canadian FAQ, 750 W on its US page and in its technical article), and whether it fits your province’s definition depends on that figure, so ask us which motor ships and check your province’s rules before riding on public roads. Higher-power e-bikes are outside those definitions: private land with permission, or where your province’s off-road rules allow. Canadian e-bike laws by province →

How much weight can the SpytanX carry?

Addmotor prints two figures. Its Canadian spec table gives the payload as “380 LBS / 127KG”, and 127 kg is 280 lb; its technical article says 380 lb total load, and the badge at the top of its Canadian page says 127 kg. Plan on 127 kg (280 lb) for rider and cargo together unless we confirm more with Addmotor for your order. For more capacity, Eunorau rates the ONE-TRIKE 2.0 at 440 lb.

How fast does the SpytanX go, and can the speed be unlocked?

Up to 24 km/h (15 mph), on Addmotor’s Canadian and US pages. Addmotor’s US FAQ says the SpytanX “is limited to a top speed of 15 MPH, which cannot be legally unlocked”. If you need 32 km/h, the CITYTRI E-310, the Arisetan II M-360 and the ONE-TRIKE 2.0 all list it.

How far does the SpytanX go on a charge, and how long does it take to charge?

Addmotor rates it for up to 145 km on pedal-assist level 1, and its FAQ puts real-world range at about 80–113 km. Addmotor’s warranty page calls its range figures estimates and names what changes them: rider and cargo weight, terrain, tire pressure, throttle use, temperature and wind. The removable 48 V 20 Ah battery takes about 6–7 hours to charge fully on the included charger, and Addmotor says its batteries last about 800 charge cycles; its warranty does not cover battery damage from extreme temperatures, so charge and store it indoors in winter. Our e-bike battery guide →

What is the folded size, and will the SpytanX fit in my car?

Addmotor gives 104 × 88 × 80 cm (40.9 × 34.6 × 31.4 in) folded, with the saddle off, and lists the same figure as the package size. Its FAQ says it typically fits most larger SUVs once the seat is removed and the frame and handlebar are folded; its product description says most SUVs, in three easy steps. Measure your cargo opening first, and plan for 47 kg with the battery in. Folding e-bikes compared →

Can I use the SpytanX on a golf course, and how do I carry a golf bag?

Addmotor built it for golf, and its FAQ says the fat tires are designed for quiet, turf-friendly riding; check your course’s rules first, as Addmotor advises. On the golf bag, Addmotor’s pages disagree: the product description says the SpytanX is “equipped with golf stand bag carrier and sand bottle”, while the FAQ says it “lacks a built-in holder” and suggests attaching a universal bracket. Call us and we’ll confirm what ships with yours.

Are the slick tires safe on wet grass or in the rain?

Addmotor says the 16 × 4.0 in air-filled tires generally give stable handling, that the slick tread helps range on dry surfaces, and that you should ride cautiously and avoid sharp turns when it is wet. Its warranty does not cover water damage, so dry the trike off and store it under cover.

What is the difference between the SpytanX and the older Spytan?

Addmotor’s own Size & Fit table sets them side by side. The SpytanX has wider front tires (16 × 4.0 in against 16 × 3.0 in), is shorter (171 cm against 196.5 cm) and wider (95 cm against 87 cm), has a shorter wheelbase (120 cm against 123 cm) and folds smaller (104 × 88 × 80 cm against 128 × 107 × 80 cm). Both are listed for riders 4′9″–5′9″. Addmotor’s own assembly video calls the SpytanX the M-320X.

What warranty comes with the SpytanX?

Addmotor’s limited warranty, backed by Addmotor in full: 2 years on the frame, the motor and the 20Ah battery, and 1 year on the fork, stem, handlebar, headset, seat post, lights, bottom bracket, rims, wheel hubs, derailleur, throttle, wiring harness, controller and LCD display. Addmotor’s limited warranty covers manufacturing defects in material or workmanship, counted from the date of purchase. We file and follow every claim for you. Warranty & Zeus Care →

Do I get Addmotor’s free front rack if I order from Zeus?

Yes. Addmotor Canada includes its Front Rack for SPYTAN free with every SpytanX on its own site, in both colours (we added each colour to a cart there on 17 October 2026, and the rack came up as a free gift each time). We include the same rack with every SpytanX ordered from us while Addmotor’s offer runs; Addmotor has not published an end date. Addmotor’s US store lists the rack at US$109, and its Canadian store shows no price for it.

When will my SpytanX ship, and is either colour on pre-order?

We process your order within 1–3 business days. Addmotor’s Canadian shipping guide says an in-stock order leaves its Aurora warehouse within 2–10 business days of order confirmation (its general FAQ says 1–2), and transit time depends on how far you are from Aurora. On 17 October 2026, Addmotor Canada’s page showed Olive Green (Green here) as a pre-order with no ship date, so for Olive Green, call 1-866-938-7580 for the current date before you order. If your trike does not arrive within 30 days of the delivery date we give you, you can cancel for a full refund.

How can I finance it?
