EUNORAU Specter-S 4.0 / Hunter X9 — 1000W Bafang Mid-Drive Full-Suspension Fat Tire eBike
Bafang Mid-Drive. Full Suspension on 26×4.0 Fat Tires. Rack, Fenders and Lights Included.
Eunorau’s 2024 Specter-S spec list had no rack or fenders; they were sold as a separate set. The Specter-S 4.0 comes with them. Eunorau’s equipment list for the 4.0 (also sold as the Hunter X9) includes an aluminum rear rack, full aluminum fenders, front and rear lights and an adjustable kickstand, and the bike still lists at 38 kg (83.7 lb), against 88.2 lb for the 2024 model on Eunorau’s own page.
Underneath is the Specter formula: a Bafang G510 mid-drive rated at 1,000W driving through a SRAM NX 1×11 drivetrain with an 11–42T cassette, so the motor works through the gears on a climb instead of fighting one fixed ratio. A shift sensor briefly cuts motor power on every gear change to ease the load on the drivetrain. Up front is a 140 mm EXPLORER fork with 36 mm stanchions, at the back an AO-38RC shock, and on the ground 26×4.0 Kenda K-1151 fat tires with four-piston hydraulic brakes and 180 mm rotors. The removable 48V 17.5Ah battery uses LG cells (840 Wh).
Eunorau Canada now lists the 4.0 where the 2024 Specter-S used to be. We still carry the 2024 model as the Specter-S 3.0. The 4.0 costs $1,000 more; what you get for it is the included rack and fenders, a lighter build and new 16″/18″ sizing. If you would rather fit your own rack, the 3.0 is the value pick, and the comparison below shows both honestly.

⏳ Pre-order: what that means on this bike
- Ship date: Eunorau Canada lists the 4.0 as “Pre-order – ships soon” and has not published a date, so we do not have one to give you. Call or contact us for the latest ETA before you order.
- Cancelling: cancel any time before your bike ships and you get a full refund. For this pre-order that replaces the 24-hour / 3% cancellation terms in our refund policy.
- After delivery: our standard refund policy applies: 15 days from delivery on unused, unopened items, a 15% restocking fee and return shipping paid by you.
- Price: matched to Eunorau Canada’s own listed price for the 4.0, read 1 October 2026.
⚠️ Canadian legal note: read this before you buy
Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021. E-bike rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s statute says 30 km/h). The Specter-S 4.0’s motor is rated at 1,000W, so it is not a power-assisted bicycle in any province, whatever its speed setting.
Eunorau’s Canadian listing labels it “Class 2, speed limited, unlockable”. Class 1, 2 and 3 are US labels, not Canadian legal categories. Treat the 4.0 as an off-road machine: private land, off-road trails that permit it, and land you have permission to ride. What riding it on a public road would require differs by province, so check yours first.
Want full suspension with a 500W motor? The Eunorau URUS 2.0 has one, with a 32 km/h maximum speed in Eunorau’s spec; check the rules in your province and municipality before public-road use. Start with our Canadian e-bike law guide → or browse 500W e-bikes →
Why the 4.0 Is the Specter for People Who Carry Things
The 2024 Specter-S was already a 1,000W full-suspension fat bike. What the 4.0 changes is how much of the job it does out of the box:
- Cargo from day one. The aluminum rack is on Eunorau’s equipment list, so a pack or a cooler has somewhere to go without a second order. (Eunorau does not publish a rack load rating; stay within the 300 lb total payload.)
- Fenders included. Full aluminum fenders front and rear, so mud and slush off 4-inch tires has something between it and you.
- Lighter despite the extras. 83.7 lb on Eunorau’s spec sheet, 4.5 lb under the 2024 Specter-S without its rack and fenders.
- New sizing. 16″ and 18″ frames replace the 2024’s 17″ and 19″. Size by saddle height (see the FAQ).
Key Features
- Bafang G510 mid-drive, 48V / 1,000W rated — The motor sits at the cranks and drives through the chain, so the same gear you would choose on a hard climb also gives the motor its best leverage. Weight stays low and central instead of hanging in the rear wheel. A thumb throttle adds power on demand. Mid-drive vs hub motor, explained →
- SRAM NX 1×11, 11–42T — NX trigger shifter, long-cage derailleur, PG-1130 cassette, KMC e11 Sport chain and a 40T ring. Eleven gears give a mid-drive the range it needs, from a crawl up a washed-out logging road to cruising on gravel.
- 140 mm EXPLORER fork + AO-38RC rear shock — 36 mm stanchions, a 15 mm front axle and 150 mm hub spacing up front; a 190 mm shock with 50 mm of travel at the back. Full suspension helps both wheels follow roots and ruts, which keeps traction and comfort up on rough ground.
- Kenda K-1151 26×4.0 fat tires — On 6061 aluminum rims with 12-gauge stainless spokes. Wide tires spread the load on snow, sand and soft forest floor. Fat tire e-bikes in Canada →
- HD-E620 four-piston hydraulic brakes, 180 mm rotors — Four pistons per caliper, front and rear, for controlled stops on a heavy bike coming down a loose grade.
- 48V 17.5Ah removable battery, LG cells — 13S5P LG 3,500 mAh cells, a 30A BMS and a lockable downtube mount. Take it inside to charge. A dual-battery switcher on the bike accepts Eunorau’s optional 48V 5Ah second pack (not included).
- Bafang DP C018.CB display — Handlebar-mounted, with riding information, pedal-assist settings and system controls.
- Two sizes, two colours — 16″ and 18″ frames; Moon Black (a dark slate blue-grey in Eunorau’s photos) or Army Green.
Included Equipment
Everything below is on Eunorau’s equipment list for the Specter-S 4.0:

- Adjustable aluminum kickstand
- 9/16″ platform pedals with reflectors
- Eunorau Comfort C7 saddle
- Thumb throttle and Bafang DP C018.CB display
Eunorau has not published a box-contents or pre-assembly list for the 4.0. Ask us before you order if you need it.
The Honest Take: What We’d Change
- There is no ship date. Eunorau’s own listing says “ships soon” and nothing more. That is why cancelling before it ships gets you a full refund here, but if you need a bike this month, the 4.0 may not be the one.
- A few numbers are not settled yet. Eunorau’s 4.0 listing prints no torque figure, gives the payload as both 300 lb and 330 lb, and has not confirmed a rider-height range. Where there are two figures we show both; plan to 300 lb and size by saddle height.
- The optional second battery shrank. The 2024 Specter-S offered a 14Ah second pack; the 4.0 lists a 5Ah one, for Eunorau’s rating of up to 83 km combined. If you ride long days, budget for range carefully, or look at the SPECTER-ST 2.0, which takes a 15Ah or 17Ah second battery.
None of that changes what the 4.0 is good at. If you want a full-suspension 1,000W fat bike that comes equipped to carry gear through snow, mud and bush, with lights for the dark ends of the day, the 4.0 does more of that out of the box than the Specter-S 3.0 does.

Who Is the Specter-S 4.0 For?
- Hunters walking in before first light — Fat tires for soft ground, a rack for the pack, lights for the dark approach, and Army Green that does not shout. Best hunting e-bikes in Canada →
- Rural landowners and trail riders — Fence lines, woodlots and logging roads, where full suspension and 11 gears matter more than top speed. Electric mountain bikes compared →
- Riders who keep going after the snow — 4-inch tires, fenders and a battery you can bring inside. Winter e-bike guide →
- Anyone who climbs a lot — A mid-drive working through an 11–42T cassette is built for long grades. Best e-bikes for steep hills →
Who it’s NOT for: anyone who needs an e-bike for bike lanes and roads (the 1,000W motor rules it out as an e-bike in every province; for 500W options see the URUS 2.0 or 500W e-bikes). Buyers who want the lowest price on this platform (the Specter-S 3.0 is $1,000 less). Riders who must carry a bike up stairs (38 kg is a lot). Anyone who needs the bike on a fixed date, since Eunorau has not published one. For a step-through frame with the same motor, look at the SPECTER-ST 2.0.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Specter-S 4.0 street-legal in Canada?
Not as an e-bike. Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021, so the rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s statute says 30 km/h). The Specter-S 4.0 is rated at 1,000W, so it is not a power-assisted bicycle in any province at any speed setting. Treat it as an off-road machine for private land, permitted off-road trails and land you have permission to ride, and check your province’s rules before any public-road use. Our Canadian e-bike law guide →
When will my Specter-S 4.0 ship?
It is a pre-order. Eunorau Canada lists the 4.0 as “Pre-order – ships soon” and has not published a ship date, so we cannot give you one either. Call 1-866-938-7580 or contact us for the latest ETA before you order. If you order and the wait stops working for you, cancel any time before your bike ships and you get a full refund. Shipping is free Canada-wide.
What changed from the Specter-S 3.0?
Going by Eunorau’s own pages: the 4.0 includes an aluminum rear rack and full aluminum fenders, which were not on the 2024 Specter-S spec list (Eunorau sells them as a separate set); it lists at 38 kg (83.7 lb) against 88.2 lb; the frame sizes move from 17″/19″ to 16″/18″; the colours narrow to Moon Black and Army Green; and the 140 mm fork is now listed as an EXPLORER fork. The motor (Bafang G510), the SRAM NX 11-speed drivetrain, the 26×4.0 Kenda tire size, the 48V 17.5Ah LG battery, the 300 lb payload and the 190 mm / 50 mm rear shock dimensions are the same. Two things went the other way: the optional second battery is now a 5Ah pack instead of 14Ah, and the 4.0 listing prints no torque figure. We still sell the Specter-S 3.0 for $1,000 less.
How much torque does it make, and does it have a torque sensor?
Eunorau’s Specter-S 4.0 listing does not print either, in Canada or the US. It names the motor as the Bafang G510. On its current Specter-ST 2.0 listing Eunorau rates the G510 (M620) at 160 N·m, and its 2024 Specter-S page described the same motor as having a built-in torque sensor. Those are Eunorau’s figures for the motor on other models; the 4.0 page itself is silent.
How far will it go on a charge?
Eunorau rates the 48V 17.5Ah battery (840 Wh) at up to 64 km (40 mi) per charge, and up to 83 km (52 mi) combined with the optional 48V 5Ah second battery, which is not included. Those are manufacturer estimates. Real range drops with hills, soft ground, throttle use, rider and cargo weight, and cold: a lithium pack delivers less in sub-zero weather and recovers when it warms up. The battery is removable, so you can charge and store it indoors through a Canadian winter. Our battery guide →
Which frame size should I choose?
Eunorau has not confirmed a rider-height range for the 4.0 yet: its geometry chart shows 160–190 cm (5′3″–6′3″) for the 16″ frame and none for the 18″. Size by saddle height instead: the 16″ frame gives 490–610 mm (19.3–24″) and the 18″ gives 540–660 mm (21.3–26″). Reach (457 mm), stack (618 mm) and wheelbase (1,274 mm) are the same on both sizes. Call us with your inseam if you are between sizes.
What warranty does it come with?
Eunorau Canada’s published warranty covers the frame for 10 years and the battery, motor and electrical components for 24 months, for the original purchaser. It requires product registration and a check-up by a Eunorau specialist or dealer after the first year, excludes wear parts, does not cover racks and fenders that come with the bike, and its frame warranty excludes suspension parts. Your first month of Zeus Care is included: we diagnose the problem, file the claim with Eunorau and follow it up. Zeus Care plans run $119 for 1 year, $229 for 2, $339 for 3 and $599 for 5; they are a service, not added parts coverage. Returns are 15 days from delivery on unused, unopened items, with a 15% restocking fee and return shipping paid by you. Warranty & Zeus Care →
Can I ride it through a Canadian winter?
Eunorau describes it as built for “challenging terrain and all-season exploration”: 26×4.0 Kenda tires spread the load on snow and sand, and the mid-drive keeps the motor in the frame rather than in a wheel hub. Range falls in the cold (see the range answer), so store and charge the battery indoors at room temperature, and rinse road salt off the chain and cassette after winter rides.
