A 12.8″ (325 mm) Stand-Over on a Folding Frame, With a Thumb Throttle and a Lit Rack.

The Monaco is Taubik’s folding step-through. Taubik says its frame stands just 12.8 inches off the ground, “making it the most accessible frame we offer”, and that, unlike its folding Escape, it rides on smooth 3″ tires rather than 4″ treaded ones.

It lists a 500W Sutto rear hub with 55 Nm, a 48V Samsung battery with 21700 cells, Kenda Street 20×3″ tires, Shimano 7-speed gearing, Zoom hydraulic brakes on 180 mm rotors and a rear rack with an integrated brake light. The manual adds a thumb throttle, and Taubik’s photo shows a seat with a small backrest pad.

Taubik’s documents also set its limits, including a manual that does not cover riding below 0 °C and two different speed figures on its page. Both are covered below.

What the Combination Does for a Rider Who Wants Easy On and Easy Storage

  • Step through, not over. 12.8″ off the ground, per Taubik. Step-through e-bikes →
  • Folds for small spaces. Taubik calls it its lowest folding e-bike. Folding e-bikes in Canada →
  • Smooth 20×3″ tires. Taubik says they are “wide enough for stability yet compact enough to keep the bike lightweight and agile”.
  • Carries the groceries. A rack rated for 25 kg with an integrated brake light.

Key Features

  • 500W Sutto rear hub, 55 Nm — “500W SUTTO (55 NM)” on Taubik’s page; the manual lists a “500W/48V Hub, UL approved”.
  • Cadence assist — “Cadence Sensor” on the page; “Speed Sensor” in the manual.
  • Thumb throttle — Per the manual. Pedal assist vs throttle →
  • 48V Samsung battery — 15Ah, “UL Certified” on the page; 14.7Ah with BMS, 21700 cells, “UL approved” in the manual. Charges in 6–8 hours on the 54.6V 2A charger, between 0 °C and 40 °C.
  • Kenda Street 20×3″ tires — On 20″ double-walled spoked rims; 5–40 psi in the manual.
  • Shimano 7-speed — “Shimano Altus RD-M310-7-Speed” on the page; “7 Speed” in the manual. MF-TZ500-7 (Taubik lists it as the cassette), KMC Z7 chain.
  • Zoom hydraulic disc brakes — Dual-piston, 180 mm rotors, with motor cut-off.
  • Rear rack with integrated brake light — Taubik says it has “a night mode and a brake sensor, complemented by an additional secondary light”; rated 25 kg in the manual. Headlight and kickstand (manual parts list).
  • 6061 aluminum folding step-through frame, 16.1″ — Vibee front suspension fork; colour LCD.

How It Arrives

Taubik’s Monaco manual says the bike arrives in its carton about 75% assembled:

  • Loosened or removed for shipping: the pedals, seat, front wheel and sometimes the handlebar
  • Packed in the carton: the charger, the pedals and small parts (check the bottom of the box before you recycle it)
  • Taubik’s manual for this model: Monaco manual (PDF) →

Taubik’s manual for this model says those parts “will need to be installed by a qualified technician to ensure they are secure before using your E-Bike”: ask us how that is handled for your order before your first ride. Assembly walkthroughs by phone or video are included in your first month of Zeus Care: call 1-866-938-7580.

The Honest Take: What to Know Before You Buy

  1. Taubik’s page has two speed figures. 32 km/h in the spec table and manual; “top speeds of 41km/h, ideal for off-road adventures” and a 1000W peak in a feature paragraph. Ask us how the bike ships before you ride it on public roads.
  2. Not for riding below freezing, per the manual. 0 °C to 40 °C. For a Taubik folder whose manual lists use to −20 °C, see the Escape.
  3. Cadence, not torque. Assist comes on once the cranks turn rather than following how hard you press; for a switchable sensor, see the Monaco S.
  4. Folding does not make it light. 68.5 lb (31.1 kg), and the manual we read has no folding instructions: ask us for a walkthrough.
  5. Taubik’s documents differ on the battery. 15Ah (page) or 14.7Ah (manual). We show both.

Inside those limits it is the frame Taubik calls “the most accessible frame we offer”, with a thumb throttle and a lit rack, from a Canadian-owned brand.

Who Is the Monaco For?

  • Riders who find a high frame hard to mount — Taubik calls it “easy for virtually anyone to hop on and ride”.
  • Condo, trunk and RV storage — A folding frame on 20″ wheels.
  • Riders who want a throttle and a lit rack — Thumb throttle; rack with a brake light, rated 25 kg.
  • Buyers who want a Canadian-owned brand — Taubik calls itself “a proudly Canadian-owned electric bike company”. All Taubik e-bikes →

Who it’s NOT for: riders who plan to ride below 0 °C (the manual does not cover it; the Escape’s does). Riders who want a torque sensor (the Monaco S). Riders who, with gear, come to more than 120 kg. Anyone who must carry a folder alone up stairs (68.5 lb).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the Monaco or the Monaco S?

This page describes Taubik’s Monaco: a 500W Sutto hub with 55 Nm, a cadence sensor and Kenda Street 20×3″ tires. The Monaco S is a different Taubik model, with a switchable torque/cadence sensor, 68 Nm on its page and CST Big Boat tires. Before you order, ask us to confirm which model and colour will ship.

How low is the step-through, and how high does the seat go?

Taubik’s dimension chart for the Monaco gives a stand-over height of 12.8″ (325 mm), a seat height from 29.3″ (750 mm) to 36.6″ (930 mm), and a 16.1″ (410 mm) frame. Taubik’s text says the frame stands just 12.8 inches off the ground, “making it the most accessible frame we offer”. It publishes no rider-height range or overall height for the Monaco, so call us at 1-866-938-7580 with your height and inseam and we will check them against Taubik’s figures. Taubik’s photo shows a seat with a small backrest pad.

Is the Monaco legal on Canadian roads?

Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021. E-bike rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s statute says 30 km/h). Taubik’s spec table and manual list a 500W motor and 32 km/h. A feature paragraph on the same Taubik page says the motor “can reach a peak power of 1000W” and “achieves top speeds of 41km/h, ideal for off-road adventures”. We have not confirmed how the bike is set when it ships, so ask us before you ride it on public roads, and check the rules in your province and municipality before public-road use. Our Canadian e-bike law guide →

Can I ride it in winter?

Taubik’s Monaco manual says: “This equipment is not intended to be used at ambient temperatures less than 0°C or above ambient temperatures of 40°C”, and the battery is to be charged between 0 °C and 40 °C. So the manual does not cover riding below freezing. Its sibling the Escape has a manual that lists use down to −20 °C. Our winter e-bike guide →

How far does it go on a charge?

Taubik’s page says up to 100 km. Its manual gives 70–110 km with pedal assist and 35–40 km on electric power alone. Taubik’s FAQ, written for its e-bikes in general, says its 100 km figure was measured with a 160 lb rider on flat ground, no cargo, pedal-assist level 1 and moderate temperatures. A full charge takes 6–8 hours on the 54.6V 2A charger. Our e-bike battery guide →

What is its weight limit, and how heavy is it?

Taubik’s page says 265 lb weight capacity and the manual a maximum load of 120 kg: about the same limit. The rear rack is rated for 25 kg and is not for a trailer or a child seat. The bike weighs 68.5 lb on the page and 31.1 kg in the manual.

Where are Taubik bikes made?

Taubik describes itself as “a proudly Canadian-owned electric bike company”. Its product pages, manuals and policies that we read do not say where the bikes are manufactured, so we will not guess: ask us and we will tell you what Taubik tells us.

Is there a manual, and how does it arrive?

Taubik posts the Monaco manual: Monaco manual (PDF) → It says the bike arrives about 75% assembled, with the pedals, seat, front wheel and sometimes the handlebar loosened or removed, and that those parts “will need to be installed by a qualified technician to ensure they are secure before using your E-Bike”. The manual we read has no folding instructions. Ask us how assembly and folding are handled for your order; your first month of Zeus Care also includes assembly walkthroughs by phone or video.

What warranty does it come with?

Taubik’s published warranty covers the frame for 2 years and the electrical components (motor, battery, controller, display and wiring) for 1 year, from the original retail purchase date, for the original purchaser. It excludes wear parts such as tires, brake pads and rotors, chains, cassettes, derailleurs and shifters (unless defective at delivery), and damage from overloading, unauthorized modifications, environmental exposure or missed maintenance; labour is not covered unless Taubik approves it in writing. Your first month of Zeus Care is included: we diagnose the problem, file the claim with Taubik and follow it up. Zeus Care plans run $119 for 1 year, $229 for 2, $339 for 3 and $599 for 5; they are a service, not added parts coverage. Returns are 15 days from delivery on unused, unopened items, with a 15% restocking fee and return shipping paid by you. Warranty & Zeus Care →
