Velotric Discover M: a 500 W Mid-Drive Step-Through With 100 N·m, an 801.6 Wh Battery and Velotric’s Longest Rated Range

The Velotric Discover M is a mid-drive step-through commuter e-bike. Its VeloCore motor is rated at 500 W (960 W peak) and 100 N·m, driving a Shimano CUES 9-speed with an 11–46T cassette; a 48 V, 16.7 Ah (801.6 Wh) battery certified to UL 2271 gives it up to 153 km on pedal assist, tied with the Summit 2 for Velotric’s highest rated range. It has an 80 mm air fork with adjustable rebound, a suspension seatpost, and fenders and a rear rack fitted at the factory.

Velotric’s own pitch is that the Discover M is not meant to be more powerful than its hub-motor sibling, the Discover 3, but more natural and more efficient, closer to the feel of a regular bicycle. An Auto Mode uses a 6-axis motion sensor to raise and lower assistance on climbs and descents, and the motor sits within the 500 W line the provincial e-bike rules converge on (see the legal note for what is not settled).

Two frame sizes, Regular for riders 157–180 cm and Large for 175–201 cm with the suspension seatpost (150–175 cm and 168–193 cm with a standard post), in Platinum Silver and Olivine Green.

⚠️ Canadian legal note: a motor at or under 500 W, on an adjustable speed cap

Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021. E-bike rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s statute says 30 km/h).

Velotric rates the Discover M’s VeloCore mid-drive at 500 W, with a 960 W peak. It ships set to 32 km/h. Velotric lists an adjustable range of 19–45 km/h, its app offers a Custom Mode that it describes as unlocking the throttle at up to 45 km/h where local rules permit, and its Class 1/2/3 labels are the US classification system, not a Canadian category; settings above 32 km/h sit above the provincial line. Whether a bike with an adjustable speed cap, or a peak rating above 500 W, qualifies as a power-assisted bicycle is not settled, so check your province before riding on public roads.

Canadian e-bike laws by province → For a lighter Velotric at or under the line, the 350 W Tempo → (17.7 kg) ships set to 32 km/h on the same terms.

Good to know before you order

Fitted and in the box: full-coverage aluminum fenders, an MIK HD-compatible rear rack rated for 30 kg, a kickstand, the suspension seatpost and an NFC key card, per Velotric’s in-box list. Velotric’s 27 kg weight leaves out the fenders, kickstand and pedals, so the bike as delivered weighs more; Velotric publishes no figure for it.

Shorter riders: the suspension seatpost raises the lowest saddle height. Velotric says it supplies a standard seatpost free of charge if the saddle sits too high for you; ask us and we’ll request it from Velotric.

Throttle: Velotric’s spec table lists a removable trigger throttle, while its feature text describes a thumb throttle designed into the mid-drive system. If the style matters, call us and we’ll confirm which one ships.

Charging in winter: the battery won’t charge below 0 °C. Velotric’s guide says to charge it at 10–30 °C, so it comes inside to charge.

Watch Velotric’s Discover M Unboxing and Assembly Video

We have not filmed our own Discover M review yet, so this is Velotric’s own video on unboxing the bike and the at-home assembly steps listed under How It Arrives below.

“Discover M: How to unbox and assemble your Discover M” (4:43, uploaded 20 August 2026), from Velotric’s own YouTube channel, not made by Zeus.

What the Combination Does for a Canadian Rider

  • Assist that follows your pedalling — a mid-drive works through the bike’s gears, and Velotric lists the benefits as smoother low-power assistance, better efficiency, a more natural feel and better weight balance.
  • Climbs without reaching for the buttons — 100 N·m through an 11–46T cassette, and an Auto Mode that uses a 6-axis motion sensor to adjust assistance on climbs and descents.
  • The longest rated range of any Velotric we sell — up to 153 km on pedal assist from 801.6 Wh, and the battery comes inside to charge in winter: it won’t charge below 0 °C.
  • Commuter kit and comfort already on — fenders, a 30 kg rack, lights with brake and turn signals, an 80 mm air fork and a suspension seatpost, plus Apple Find My, Android Find Hub and NFC unlock.

Discover M Sizes, Fit and Measurements

Velotric sells two frame sizes. Rider heights are from its spec table; the other figures are from its size-chart images. Inches and feet are our conversion of Velotric’s metric figures.

Discover M geometry (Velotric)
Measurement Regular Large
Rider height, suspension seatpost 157–180 cm (5′2″–5′11″) 175–201 cm (5′9″–6′7″)
Rider height, standard seatpost 150–175 cm (4′11″–5′9″) 168–193 cm (5′6″–6′4″)
Stand-over height 399 mm (15.7″) 388 mm (15.3″)
Saddle height 838–995 mm (33.0–39.2″) 910–1,065 mm (35.8–41.9″)
Reach 374 mm (14.7″) 374 mm (14.7″)
Handlebar height 1,110 mm (43.7″) 1,110 mm (43.7″)
Wheelbase 1,113 mm (43.8″) 1,113 mm (43.8″)
Total length 1,812 mm (71.3″) 1,812 mm (71.3″)
Handlebar width 680 mm (26.8″) 700 mm (27.6″)

Both sizes keep a low step (Velotric’s charts give 399 mm and 388 mm) and differ mainly in saddle height. Between 175 and 180 cm either fits; call us with your height and inseam if you are unsure.

Key Features

  • VeloCore mid-drive, 500 W (960 W peak), 100 N·m — Velotric’s spec-table rating; its feature text adds “130Nm Max”. Assistance goes through the chain and gears rather than the rear hub.
  • Auto Mode plus SensorSwap — 4 riding modes and an Auto Mode that reads climbs and descents with a 6-axis motion sensor; switch between torque and cadence sensing; ride tuning in the app.
  • 48 V, 16.7 Ah (801.6 Wh) battery — IPX7, certified to UL 2271, Samsung/LG 21700 cells certified to UL 2580, on a 48 V, 3 A charger. Velotric rates it for up to 153 km on pedal assist.
  • Shimano CUES 9-speed, 11–46T — with a KMC eGlide 9-speed chain, a 46T narrow-wide chainring and 170 mm aluminum cranks.
  • 80 mm air suspension fork — with lockout and adjustable rebound, set by body weight from the chart on the fork sticker, plus a suspension seatpost.
  • Throttle — a removable trigger throttle in the spec table (the feature text describes a thumb throttle designed into the mid-drive); throttle rules on public roads are set by each province.
  • 3.5″ full-colour display — Bluetooth and NFC, adjustable angle, cruise control, one-touch speed-setting switching, a 4.7 km/h walk mode and a USB-C port.
  • Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, 180 mm rotors — levers cut the motor when you brake.
  • Kenda 27.5 × 2.4″ puncture-resistant tires — multi-terrain tread on aluminum rims, NOVATEC front hub on a 15 × 110 mm thru-axle.
  • Lights, fenders and rack — a 500 lm headlight, a rear light in the rack with brake and turn signals, full-coverage aluminum fenders and a 30 kg MIK HD-compatible rack.
  • Apple Find My, Android Find Hub and NFC unlock — with the Velotric app for over-the-air updates.
  • UL 2849 and ISO 4210 — UL 2849 for the e-bike system, UL 2271 for the battery; IPX6.

How It Arrives

Velotric’s guide says the bike ships partially assembled. In the box, per Velotric:

  • The Discover M, with its battery, charger, front light and display
  • Front and rear fenders, the rear rack, the suspension seatpost and the kickstand
  • Front and rear reflectors, a bell, a cable binder, an NFC key card, and left and right pedals
  • The manual and app guide, and a toolkit

At home, in the guide’s order: the handlebar and stem, the front wheel, the front fender, the front light and display, the bell and reflectors, and the pedals, then a tire-pressure check and charging the battery. The guide includes a table of recommended torque values. Your first month of Zeus Care includes assembly walkthroughs by phone or video.

The Honest Take: What to Know Before You Buy

  1. It is the dearest Velotric step-through we sell. The mid-drive, the bigger battery and the 9-speed cost more than the Discover 3, which shares the fork, seatpost, fenders and rack (see the comparison for both prices).
  2. Not lighter than the Discover 3 as delivered. Velotric lists 27 kg without the fenders, kickstand and pedals and 28 kg for the Discover 3, so the two are close in practice.
  3. A peak above 500 W and an adjustable speed cap. The rating is 500 W, but the 960 W peak and the 19–45 km/h setting range are why we can’t call it settled under every province’s wording.

If you want a mid-drive’s feel and the longest range in the Velotric line, with suspension, fenders and a rack already on, the Discover M is the Velotric commuter for it.

Who Is the Discover M For?

Who it’s NOT for: riders who want the lowest price with the same kit (the Discover 3); riders who need light weight (the 17.7 kg Tempo or the 22 kg Breeze 1); riders who want trail suspension (the Summit 2, with a 120 mm fork); and riders and cargo over 200 kg (e-bikes for heavy riders).

Frequently Asked Questions

What riders ask about the Discover M

Where can I buy the Velotric Discover M in Canada?

Here, from Zeus eBikes Canada: order the Discover M online on this page. It ships from Canada with free Canada-wide shipping (no P.O. boxes or remote communities: call first), processed in 1–3 business days, then 2–7 business days in transit. Returns are 15 days from delivery on unused, unopened items, with a 15% restocking fee and return shipping paid by you. Your first month of Zeus Care is included, and we file warranty claims with Velotric for you. Questions before you order: 1-866-938-7580 or sales@zeusebikes.ca; to pay by Interac e-Transfer instead of card, email sales@ for an invoice.

Does the Velotric Discover M have a throttle?

Yes. Velotric’s spec table lists a trigger throttle that can be removed, and its feature text describes a thumb throttle designed into the mid-drive; ask us and we’ll confirm which ships. Velotric puts throttle-only range at 113 km. Throttle use on public roads is set by each province. Pedal assist vs throttle →

How much does the Discover M weigh, and how much can it carry?

Velotric lists 27 kg and notes that figure leaves out the fenders, kickstand and pedals; it publishes no weight with them fitted. The maximum load is 200 kg (440 lb) for rider plus cargo, and the guide gives the same 440 lb as the total including the bike, so plan within the lower reading. The rear rack is rated for 30 kg. E-bikes for heavy riders →

Is the Discover M street legal in Canada? What class is it?

Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021. E-bike rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s statute says 30 km/h). Velotric rates the Discover M’s motor at 500 W with a 960 W peak, and it ships set to 32 km/h, but Velotric lists an adjustable range of 19–45 km/h and a Custom Mode that unlocks the throttle at up to 45 km/h where local rules permit. Whether a bike with an adjustable cap, or a peak above 500 W, qualifies as a power-assisted bicycle is not settled, so check your province. Velotric’s Class 1/2/3 labels are US terms, not a Canadian category. Canadian e-bike laws by province →

How far does the Discover M go on a charge?

Velotric rates it for up to 153 km on pedal assist and 113 km on throttle, tied with the Summit 2 for the highest of the Velotrics we sell; its Canadian page does not print the test conditions. Range drops with higher assist, hills, wind, load and cold. Long-range e-bikes →

What battery does it use, and how do I charge it?

A 48 V, 16.7 Ah (801.6 Wh) pack, IPX7, certified to UL 2271, with Samsung/LG 21700 cells certified to UL 2580, on a 48 V, 3 A charger. Velotric’s guide says to charge it at 10–30 °C; it will not charge below 0 °C or above 45 °C, and if it refuses, let it come to room temperature for at least an hour before trying again. Store it at 10–25 °C. Winter e-bikes in Canada →

What does a mid-drive do better than a hub motor?

Velotric’s answer: a mid-drive works through the bike’s drivetrain, so assistance lines up with your pedalling; it lists smoother low-power assistance, better energy efficiency, a more natural feel and better weight balance. Mid-drive vs hub motor in Canada →

Is it 100 Nm or 130 Nm of torque?

Both appear on Velotric’s page: the spec table says 100 N·m, and the feature text says “100Nm Torque, 130Nm Max”. We print both; the spec table’s 100 N·m is the figure Velotric gives in its full specifications.

What is Auto Mode?

One of the assist settings: Velotric says a 6-axis motion sensor detects climbs and descents in real time and adjusts the assistance, so you don’t change modes by hand. There are also 4 riding modes, cruise control and SensorSwap (torque or cadence).

Will the Discover M fit me: Regular or Large?

Velotric sizes it by rider height with the suspension seatpost: Regular 157–180 cm (5′2″–5′11″), Large 175–201 cm (5′9″–6′7″); with a standard seatpost, 150–175 cm and 168–193 cm. Velotric’s size charts give saddle heights of 838–995 mm (Regular) and 910–1,065 mm (Large). If the suspension post sits too high, Velotric supplies a standard post free; call us with your height and inseam.

How do I set the air fork, and what pressure should it run?

With a suspension-specific air pump at the valve marked AIR on the brake-side leg, set by your body weight: Velotric prints the pressure chart on the fork sticker (and in the guide if the sticker is missing). The fork also has lockout and adjustable rebound.

Are fenders and a rack included?

Yes. Velotric fits full-coverage aluminum fenders and an MIK HD-compatible rear rack (30 kg) at the factory, with a kickstand and a suspension seatpost; nothing to buy or install.

How does the Discover M arrive, and is assembly hard?

Velotric says it ships partially assembled, with a toolkit. You fit the handlebar and stem, the front wheel, the front fender, the front light and display, the bell and reflectors, and the pedals, then check the tires and charge the battery; the guide includes a table of recommended torque values. Your first month of Zeus Care includes assembly walkthroughs, and Velotric’s video is above. Velotric’s assembly and operation guide →

Discover M or Discover 3: which should I buy?

Velotric’s own comparison: the Discover M feels more natural and is more efficient for long, mixed-terrain rides; the Discover 3 gives more direct assistance and a lighter feel for relaxed riding. The Discover M also has the bigger battery (801.6 against 730 Wh) and a 9-speed; both share the fork, seatpost, fenders and rack. See the comparison →

Are there reviews of the Discover M?

There are no Zeus customer reviews of the Discover M yet. Velotric’s own Canadian page for it shows six video reviews from other YouTube channels: ElectricBikeReview.com’s, Electric Bike Report’s, Scott Hardesty’s, Mike Rochester’s, TailHappyTV’s and Tim Schofield’s (posted between 10 and 23 February 2026). YouTube labels Scott Hardesty’s, Mike Rochester’s and Tim Schofield’s as including paid promotion; TailHappyTV’s description carries the creator’s affiliate links. Speeds and prices in reviews made outside Canada won’t match this page, which uses Velotric Canada’s figures. Watch Velotric’s assembly video above, or call us at 1-866-938-7580 and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s right for you.

Also worth knowing before you buy

What warranty comes with the Discover M?

Velotric’s Canadian warranty policy (read 17 October 2026) covers the electrical components for 2 years: the motor, throttle, control panel, controller, wiring harness, lights, sensor, Find My and IoT modules, and charger, with the battery covered for up to 300 charge cycles in that time (Velotric says it is designed to keep up to 75% of its capacity over them). Other essential parts (suspension fork, stem, handlebar, headset, brakes except pads, bottom bracket, crankset, pedals, kickstand, rims, hubs, freewheel, derailleur and shifter) and accessories are covered for 1 year. Tires, tubes, brake pads, cables and housing, grips, chain, spokes, paint and graphics are not covered, and coverage is for the first owner. The same policy also says third-party components such as drivetrain, brake or suspension parts are not covered by it, and its 5-year frame line names only the T1 and T1 ST; where its wording leaves a question, we get Velotric’s answer for you before you buy. These are Velotric’s own published Canadian terms (the limited warranty printed in its guide applies to US purchases only), backed by Velotric in full. Velotric’s policy sends buyers who bought through a dealer to that dealer, which is us, and we handle the claim with Velotric for you. Your first month of Zeus Care is included: we diagnose the problem, file the claim with Velotric and follow it up. Zeus Care plans run $119 for 1 year, $229 for 2, $339 for 3 and $599 for 5; they are a service, not added parts coverage. Returns are 15 days from delivery on unused, unopened items, with a 15% restocking fee and return shipping paid by you. Warranty & Zeus Care →
