Zeus Future Machine: 11 Calls on Canada's Future, Every One Scored in Public

Quick answer: the Future Machine is a free 16-bit console. Type any question about what happens next and it prints Zeus's call when there is one: 11 are open, on house prices, rent, Alberta, CUSMA, food prices, the Bank of Canada's 2% target, e-bike laws and Ontario's ban on invasive research on dogs and cats, each with its documents and the date it gets scored. Anything else is answered from the 403 articles Zeus has published, with a link to the source.

Why a Machine That Keeps Score

In one week this October, three results landed that Canadians had been waiting on. By Elections Alberta's unofficial count, Albertans voted on 19 October to stay in Canada; Statistics Canada reported grocery prices up 1.7% in a year; and CREA reported resale prices down 3.4%. A forecast is only worth something if someone checks it when its date arrives. So the Future Machine writes each call against named documents and a named date, then scores it on this page, hit or miss.

It answers more than its calls. Ask it something it has no call on, and it searches every article Zeus has published, from the provincial e-bike laws to why Canada is so expensive, and prints the closest answer with its source and date.

Takeaway: every call names its documents and the date it gets scored, and a miss stays on the board next to the hits.

How the Future Machine Answers

The machine works through a question in a fixed order. If Zeus has a scored call on the topic, it prints the call, the documents behind it and its scoring date. If not, it searches every published Zeus article and prints the closest passage with its source. A question about an order goes straight to the Zeus team.

  • Scored calls. 11 open calls, 1 dated test and 3 topics marked NO CALL, all in the ledger below.
  • The Zeus files. 8,161 answers from 403 articles: each article's quick answer, its FAQ answers and the opening of each section, printed with the article's name, its last-updated date and a link to the full answer.
  • Nothing made up. On zeusebikes.ca the machine writes no text of its own. When no call and no article covers a question, it says NO SIGNAL and offers to email the question to the Zeus newsroom.
  • Store questions. Orders, returns and shipping go to the Zeus team at 1-866-938-7580.
  • Shopping questions. Which bike fits you is the Zeus eBike Finder's job, and the machine says so.

Takeaway: a call comes with its scoring date, and a file answer comes with its source article. The machine prints nothing without one or the other.

Every Call on the Board

The board holds 11 open calls, each made on 21 October 2026 against the documents named beside it. The first is scored on 29 October 2026, when Elections Alberta publishes official results, and the last on 20 January 2029. Three topics carry NO CALL because no document puts a date on them.

Before each scoring date, Zeus reads the same documents again. The wording of a call never changes after it is made: it is marked HIT or MISS, and a MISS stays on the board. The background to the trade calls is in Zeus's trade-war playbook, and the Alberta question in what happens if Alberta separates.

Takeaway: the first scoring date is 29 October 2026, Alberta's official results. Come back that day to see the first mark on the board.

The Signal Ladder

The machine never quotes odds. Everything on its watch list sits on an eight-step ladder, from LOCKED IN, meaning in force or dated in law, down to COULD NOT LOOK, and an item climbs only when a document moves. The ladder is how the machine shows its confidence without inventing a percentage.

  • LOCKED IN. Done, in force, or a date set in law or by the official body.
  • IN MOTION. Passed or under way, waiting on a date.
  • PROPOSED. A government proposal is published.
  • TALK. Statements or news, no document yet.
  • NO SIGNAL. Looked in named places, found nothing.
  • COULD NOT LOOK. The machine could not check. Never scored.
  • TEST. A dated test Zeus set. Scored pass or fail.
  • RESEARCH. A study. Shown for context, never scored.

What the Machine Reads

Beyond its calls, the machine reads every article Zeus has published: 403 of them, cut into 8,161 answers, copied on 21 October 2026. A passage went in only after it passed five checks from Zeus's publishing rules: banned legal phrasing, the register of known-false product specs, return-policy claims, financing claims and sales figures.

Left out on purpose: fiction chapters from The Bookshelf, the product-pick boxes in buying guides, every sentence that links to a product or a collection, and any passage a check rejected or Zeus found wrong on reading. Every answer prints the date its article was last updated.

Seven cartridges are still being built. Typing a question on their topics gets a file answer where one exists, and the cartridge tells you what it still needs:

  • JOBS & AI. A fresh Labour Force Survey read. Zeus's AI-and-jobs piece dates from April 2026, and a call needs this month's data.
  • QUEBEC. A verified read of where Quebec's sovereignty question stands today. The machine has not read it yet.
  • SOCIAL MEDIA. A fresh read of the bill behind Zeus's social-media-law piece and where it stands now.
  • POWER BILLS. Its research file is still being reviewed. The machine makes no call until it is cleared.
  • BATTERY LIFE. Maker cycle ratings. In Zeus's 7 October catalogue, 28 of 607 listings state one, and only as listing text. The machine reads the makers' own spec sheets first, then does the math for your kilometres.
  • SALE SEASON. A dated calendar of maker sales that covers at least two years. Zeus has logged maker promotions from late August to mid-October 2026, and one season is not a pattern.
  • PRICE WATCH. A second dated price read of the same shelf. Zeus's September 2026 Amazon.ca census is a single snapshot, and a trend needs at least two.

How the machine was built. Questions came first. Every question on a ready cartridge was seen in at least three independent places, such as the autocomplete of Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo and Brave on Canadian settings (318 probes on each engine on 21 October 2026, none failed) or Google searches that reached zeusebikes.ca. Every call was then written from primary documents read on 21 October 2026: Elections Alberta's results, Statistics Canada, the Bank of Canada, USTR, Global Affairs Canada, the CUSMA text, Ontario's e-Laws, the Government of Alberta, IFPRI, Équité Association, CREA, CMHC and Rentals.ca, with the Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Québec and Ontario e-bike sources from Zeus's October law pass. Statistics Canada's site was down that day, so its 19 October consumer price release was read from the Internet Archive's copy. The full list is under Sources.

Questions People Ask About the Future Machine

Is the Future Machine an AI?

No. On zeusebikes.ca it writes nothing of its own. A scored call was written and checked by Zeus from dated documents, and every other answer is a passage from a published Zeus article, printed with the article's name and the date it was last updated.

How does a call get scored?

Each call names its documents and a date. Before that date, Zeus reads the same documents again and marks the call HIT or MISS on the board. A call is never reworded after it is made, and a MISS stays on the board beside the hits.

Why won't the machine predict gas prices or when tariffs end?

Both turn on decisions no document schedules. Gas prices follow the fight over the Strait of Hormuz, and an end date for US tariffs is a choice made in Washington. The machine marks both NO CALL and shows what it watches instead, such as CUSMA's yearly review.

Where do the answers come from when there's no call?

From 403 articles Zeus has published, cut into 8,161 answers: each article's quick answer, its FAQ answers and the opening of each section. The machine prints the closest one with its article and date, and links to the full answer, where the article's own sources are listed.

Does the machine send my question to Zeus?

No. The search runs in your browser against files the page downloads, and the machine sends nothing you type. When it has no answer, it offers a link that opens an email to the Zeus newsroom, so sending the question is your choice.

What happens when a call misses?

It stays on the board, marked MISS, with the date it was made and the document that settled it. The score counts hits and misses alike.

Why do some cartridges say IN PRODUCTION?

A cartridge ships when its questions have been seen in at least three independent places and its facts have been read at the source. Until then, typing a question on that topic still gets an answer from the Zeus files where one exists.

Takeaway: type the question you actually have. The machine prints a dated call, a sourced answer, or NO SIGNAL, and it tells you which one you got.
