All figures are the makers’ own; prices are in CAD, live from our store. Rated = the maker’s rated (nominal, continuous or sustained) figure, all motors added; where a maker prints one figure without saying rated or peak, we use that figure. — = the maker does not print it. Figures read on the makers’ own pages between 6 and 18 October 2026. Prices and stock are live from our store; a bike shows “Sold out” when no version is in stock. One listing sells several motors (the Eunorau Flash: 750W rear-drive, 1,000W mid-drive, or two 750W motors), so it sits on every shelf one of its versions fits.

How we choose the bikes on this shelf

We shelve by the motor’s rating, not its peak, because the rating is what the provincial e-bike definitions measure. Nova Scotia’s new definition, in force from 19 October 2026, is typical of how the provinces write it: the motors, “singly or in combination”, must have “a total continuous nominal power output rating” of 500 W or less (N.S. Reg. 221/2026, s. 3). So we add the motors together, read each figure on the maker’s own page, and where a maker prints two different figures for one motor, we print both instead of choosing one.

Two kinds of bike are kept off every wattage shelf: those whose maker prints only a peak, and those whose maker calls its rating a factory setting that can be unlocked. Until a maker publishes a rating we can use, those bikes stay on our dual-motor, full-suspension and long-range shelves.

What changes above 500W

The road rules

Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021. E-bike rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s 30 km/h ends on 19 October 2026). Under that line, an e-bike is treated much like a bicycle. Over it, you’re into off-road or motor-vehicle territory — different rules, different insurance, different places you can ride.

Where you can ride differs by province and city: our laws guide goes province by province.

FAQ — 750W electric bikes in Canada

Are 750W e-bikes legal in Canada?
Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021. E-bike rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s 30 km/h ends on 19 October 2026). A motor rated above 500W is over that line, so a 750W e-bike sits outside those e-bike rules. Under that line, an e-bike is treated much like a bicycle. Over it, you’re into off-road or motor-vehicle territory — different rules, different insurance, different places you can ride. Where you can ride differs by province and city: our laws guide goes province by province.

500W vs 750W: what is the difference?
In Canada the difference that matters most is the 500W line: under it, the provincial e-bike rules treat the bike much like a bicycle; over it, they do not. On the bike, a higher rating means the maker rates the motor for more continuous power; torque, gearing and the speed setting also shape how it climbs. Our 500W vs 750W vs 1000W explained compares the three common ratings.

Why is a bike I saw advertised as 1,000W or more on this shelf?
Because the bigger number is its peak. We shelve every bike by the motor’s rated (continuous) output as its maker prints it, so a bike rated 750W with a 1,300W peak sits here, and the table shows both figures.
