Taubik Escape S: a Folding Fat-Tire E-Bike on 20 × 4-Inch Tires and Mag Wheels, With a Switchable Torque/Cadence Sensor

The Taubik Escape S is a folding, step-through fat-tire e-bike on 20 × 4″ CST BFT tires and magnesium-alloy (mag) wheels. Taubik lists a 500W Sutto rear hub (68 Nm on its page, 85 Nm in its brochure), a 48V Samsung battery “Certified in accordance with UL 2271”, a sensor that switches between torque and cadence, a thumb throttle, a VIBEE suspension fork with 65 mm of travel, Zoom hydraulic brakes on 180 mm rotors and a rear rack with an LED running light and built-in brake light.

Below are all eleven figures from Taubik’s Escape S dimension chart, in inches and millimetres, starting with a 46.7″ (1,186 mm) wheelbase. Its documents also set the limits: 68 lb on the page (30.5 kg net in the manual), a 120 kg maximum load in the manual (286 lb on the page), and a manual that rules out use below 0 °C or above 40 °C. Where Taubik’s documents disagree, we print both figures.

*48 V × 15 Ah = 720 Wh (706 Wh on the 14.7 Ah in Taubik’s brochure, manual and battery label): our arithmetic, since Taubik prints no watt-hour figure. Every other figure is Taubik’s: its Escape S page, brochure and manual (PDF), read 15–16 October 2026.

About this listing: until 16 October 2026 it sold the earlier Taubik Escape. Photos further down the gallery in that model’s colours (Tiffany Blue, Mauve, Red, Army Green, Black, Metallic Blue), its orange dimension chart and an infographic that says “UL 2849 certified” show the earlier Escape, and so does any customer review dated before that day. The Escape S comes in the five colours in the colour selector (Taubik’s Matte Clay Red is listed as Red in our colour selector), and Taubik lists its battery as certified in accordance with UL 2271.

What the Combination Does for a Rider Who Leaves the Pavement

  • Fold it into the trunk, the RV or the boat. In Taubik’s words: “Fold it down in seconds to fit neatly in a car trunk, RV, boat, or garage”. Folding e-bikes in Canada →
  • Grip where the pavement ends. 20 × 4.0″ CST BFT tires whose “Deep, blocky tread delivers confident traction on gravel, packed dirt, and rough pavement”, per Taubik. Fat tire vs regular tire →
  • No spokes to true. Taubik calls the mag wheels “Maintenance-free wheels that never require truing”.
  • Choose the assist feel. Cadence for easy cruising, torque for a ride that follows your pedalling; the manual puts the switch in the display menu, and the thumb throttle works without pedalling.
  • Carry and be seen. A rear rack rated 25 kg whose LED running light, Taubik says, “automatically brightens when braking”.

Escape S Dimensions and Measurements

Taubik publishes eleven frame figures for the Escape S, on a chart on its product page: a 46.7″ (1,186 mm) wheelbase, 20.2″ (513 mm) of stack, 18.8″ (478 mm) of reach, an 11.8″ (300 mm) bottom-bracket height and a 17.3″ (439 mm) seat tube. It publishes no overall length, folded size, stand-over height or seat-height range.

Not published by Taubik: overall length, folded size, stand-over (step-through) height, seat-height range, handlebar height, rider-height range and battery weight. We checked its Escape S page in English and French (including the collapsed panels), the dimension chart, its English and French manuals and both brochures on 15–16 October 2026. You may see a 14″ (360 mm) stand-over or a 34.6–40.5″ (880–1,030 mm) seat height quoted for “the Escape”: those figures are on Taubik’s chart for the earlier Escape, a different frame. Key Features

  • 500W Sutto rear hub — “500W Integrated SUTTO (68 NM)” on Taubik’s page, “500W Sutto (85 NM)” in the brochure; the manual lists a “SUTTON 48V500W HUB” in the rear wheel.
  • Dual torque/cadence sensor — “Switch between torque and cadence sensors for your ideal ride”, says Taubik; in the display menu, the sensor switch reads Y for cadence and N for torque (manual).
  • Thumb throttle — Per the manual and brochure; on the throttle alone, the manual gives the maximum speed as 32 km/h. Pedal assist vs throttle →
  • 48V Samsung battery behind the seat tube — 15 Ah on the page, 14.7 Ah in the brochure and manual (21700 cells). Taubik says its “vertical removal design allows the battery to slide up and out without removing the seat”. It charges in 6–8 hours on the 48V 2A charger, between 0 °C and 40 °C.
  • CST BFT 20 × 4.0″ tires on mag wheels — 20″ magnesium-alloy rims; the manual sets tire pressure at 35–40 psi.
  • VIBEE WB800-HLO-20 fork, 65 mm travel — Front suspension, per Taubik’s page and brochure.
  • Shimano Altus 7-speed — RD-M310 derailleur and MF-TZ500-7 (Taubik lists it as the cassette), with a trigger shifter (brochure).
  • Zoom hydraulic disc brakes — Dual-piston, 180 mm rotors; the manual lists them “with cut-off”.
  • Lights, rack and kickstand — Headlight and tail light (Taubik’s spec table lists “Headlight & Tailight” under integrated lights), a rack rated 25 kg carrying “a rear-rack-mounted LED running light with a built-in brake light”, and a kickstand (manual parts diagram).
  • Saddle with a backrest — Taubik fits “the same wide, cushioned saddle and adjustable backrest found on the Monaco”.
  • 6061 aluminum folding frame — 17″ in the spec table, a 17.3″ (439 mm) seat tube on the chart; 27.2 mm × 350 mm seatpost; colour LCD display with a USB charging function (manual).

How It Arrives

Taubik’s Escape S manual says the bike is assembled, inspected and tuned at the factory, then partly taken apart to ship, and arrives about 75% assembled:

  • Loosened or removed for shipping: the pedals, seat, front wheel and sometimes the handlebar
  • Packed in the carton: the charger, the pedals and small parts (check the bottom of the box before you recycle it)
  • The battery, which locks in place (the manual’s steps: turn left to unlock, pull it out, turn right to lock)
  • Taubik’s manual for this model: Escape S manual (PDF) →

The manual recommends two people for assembly and lists the tightening torques (all seven are in the measurements table above). Assembly walkthroughs by phone or video are included in your first month of Zeus Care: call 1-866-938-7580 before your first ride. Taubik’s warranty conditions include proper assembly and a pre-delivery inspection: ask us how that is handled for your order.

The Honest Take: What to Know Before You Buy

  1. Its manual draws the line at 0 °C. Not intended for use below freezing, battery charging only between 0 °C and 40 °C, and Taubik’s warranty excludes damage from prolonged exposure to snow, storage in extreme cold and salt corrosion. The earlier Escape’s manual listed −20 °C; the Escape S manual does not. Ask us or Taubik before you plan winter riding on it.
  2. Plan around 120 kg, not 286 lb. The page says 286 lb; the manual says a maximum load of 120 kg (about 265 lb). The rack’s own limit is 25 kg.
  3. Folding does not make it light. 68 lb on the page (30.5 kg in the manual): fine for a car trunk with two people, hard for one person on stairs.
  4. Rugged, not a trail bike. Taubik pitches it for gravel and uneven terrain; its manual says the e-bike “is designed to be used on a regular road by a single person” and that extreme off-road use or jumping will damage it.
  5. No folding instructions or folded size. Taubik’s page describes the fold; the English manual does not explain it and no Taubik source gives folded dimensions. Ask us for a walkthrough.
  6. Taubik’s documents disagree on details. Torque 68 Nm (page) or 85 Nm (brochure); battery 15 Ah (page) or 14.7 Ah (brochure, manual, battery label); weight 68 lb (page) or 30.5 kg (manual); frame size 17″ in the spec table or a 17.3″ (439 mm) seat tube on the chart; and the bike drawn on the chart wears Kenda-lettered tires where the spec table and gallery photos show CST BFT. We show both.

Inside those limits it is a well-equipped fat-tire folder: a switchable sensor, mag wheels, a suspension fork, a lit rack and a throttle, from a Canadian-owned brand.

Who Is the Escape S For?

  • RV, camping and boat riders — Taubik built the fold for “a car trunk, RV, boat, or garage”; the rack and throttle come along.
  • Riders who leave the pavement — Taubik pitches it for “cruising bike paths, cutting through town, or exploring gravel roads and uneven terrain”. Fat tire vs regular tire →
  • Riders who want to choose the assist feel — Torque or cadence at the display, plus a thumb throttle. Pedal assist vs throttle →
  • Buyers who want a Canadian-owned brand — Taubik calls itself “a proudly Canadian-owned electric bike company”. All Taubik e-bikes →

Who it’s NOT for: riders who need a bike for use below freezing before checking with us or Taubik (the manual’s 0 °C line). Riders who, with gear, come to more than 120 kg. Anyone who must carry a folder alone up stairs. Trail and jump riders (the manual rules out extreme off-road use). City riders who want 20 × 3″ tires and more fork travel (the Monaco S) or the lowest-priced Taubik folder here (the Monaco).

Frequently Asked Questions

What riders ask about the Escape S

Is the Escape S the same bike as the earlier Escape?

No. Taubik sells them as two models. The Escape S lists a switchable torque/cadence sensor, CST BFT 20×4″ tires on magnesium-alloy wheels, a VIBEE fork with 65 mm of travel, a battery “Certified in accordance with UL 2271” and a manual that stops at 0 °C. The earlier Escape lists a cadence sensor, Kenda Krusade tires on spoked rims, “UL2849 certified” and a manual that lists −20 °C. Taubik’s catalogue tags the Escape S “2026”. This listing sold the earlier Escape until 16 October 2026, so its older photos and reviews describe that model: the full comparison →

What are the Escape S’s dimensions, and will it fit me?

Taubik’s chart gives a 46.7″ (1,186 mm) wheelbase, 20.2″ (513 mm) of stack, 18.8″ (478 mm) of reach, an 18.9″ (480 mm) chainstay and a 17.3″ (439 mm) seat tube; all eleven figures are in the measurements table above. Taubik publishes no overall length, folded size, stand-over height, seat-height range or rider-height range for the Escape S, and the seatpost is 27.2 × 350 mm. The 14″ (360 mm) stand-over sometimes quoted for “the Escape” belongs to the earlier model. If fit is tight, call us before you order and we will ask Taubik for the figure you need.

How much does the Escape S weigh, and what is its weight limit?

Taubik’s page and brochure say 68 lb; the manual says 30.5 kg (about 67 lb) net. Taubik publishes no battery weight. For load, the page says 286 lb weight capacity and the manual a maximum load of 120 kg (about 265 lb): plan around the lower one. The rear rack is rated for 25 kg and is not for a trailer or a child seat.

What battery does it use, and can I get a spare or a charger?

A 48V Samsung pack with 21700 cells: 15 Ah on Taubik’s page, 14.7 Ah in its brochure and manual and on the label in Taubik’s own battery photo (about 720 or 706 Wh by our arithmetic). Taubik lists it as “Certified in accordance with UL 2271”. It sits behind the seat tube and slides up and out without removing the seat. The manual specifies a 48V 2A UL-approved charger, 6–8 hours for a full charge, and charging only between 0 °C and 40 °C. For a spare or a replacement, call us and we will check with Taubik which pack and charger fit your bike.

How does it fold?

Taubik says: “Fold it down in seconds to fit neatly in a car trunk, RV, boat, or garage—without sacrificing strength or ride quality when unfolded.” Its English manual does not explain the fold, and Taubik publishes no folded dimensions, so call us and we will walk you through it, or show you on video, before you order. For transport, plan for 68 lb and two people, and take the battery out first.

Escape S or Monaco S: which Taubik folder should I choose?

Taubik says the Escape S “carries a more rugged personality than the Monaco” and gives it the Monaco’s saddle and backrest. The Escape S rides on 20×4″ CST BFT tires and mag wheels with 65 mm of fork travel; the Monaco S on 20×3″ CST Big Boat tires and spoked rims with 75 mm and a lockout. Both list 68 Nm and a switchable sensor on Taubik’s pages. Prices and every other figure are in the comparison table above.

Where are Taubik bikes made? Is Taubik a Canadian company?

Taubik describes itself as “a proudly Canadian-owned electric bike company”, and its Why Choose Taubik page says “we take pride in being a Canadian company”. Its Escape S page, manuals and brochures that we read do not say where the bike is designed or manufactured, so we will not guess: ask us and we will tell you what Taubik tells us.

Are there reviews of the Escape S?

Not yet: the Escape S is new on our listing, and Taubik’s own Escape S page shows no reviews. A review dated before 16 October 2026 on this listing was written about the earlier Escape. If you would like to know whether the Escape S suits you before buying, call us at 1-866-938-7580: we will tell you honestly, including when another bike fits better.

Is there a manual, and how does it arrive?

Taubik posts the Escape S manual in English and French. It says the bike arrives about 75% assembled, with the charger, pedals and small parts in the carton, and it recommends two people for assembly. Your first month of Zeus Care includes assembly walkthroughs by phone or video: call 1-866-938-7580 before your first ride. Taubik’s warranty conditions include proper assembly and a pre-delivery inspection: ask us how that is handled for your order.

Is the Escape S legal on Canadian roads?

Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021. E-bike rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s statute says 30 km/h). The Escape S has a 500W motor, 32 km/h in Taubik’s spec table and manual, and working pedals. Its manual also says the display’s speed limit can be adjusted and asks riders not to exceed the limit set by local regulations, while it gives the bike’s maximum speed as 32 km/h; whether an adjustable cap qualifies is not settled. Throttle rules also differ by province, so check the rules in your province and municipality before public-road use. Our Canadian e-bike law guide →

Can I ride it in winter?

Taubik’s manual says: “This equipment is not intended to be used at ambient temperatures less than 0°C or above ambient temperatures of 40°C.” It also says to charge the battery only between 0 °C and 40 °C, and Taubik’s warranty excludes damage from prolonged exposure to rain, snow or moisture, storage in extreme heat or cold and corrosion from salt. Ask us or Taubik before you plan winter riding on it. The earlier Escape’s manual listed use down to −20 °C; the Escape S manual does not. Our winter e-bike guide →

How far does it go on a charge?

Taubik’s page says up to 100 km. Its Escape S manual gives 50–95 km with pedal assist and 30–35 km on electric power alone. Taubik’s FAQ, written for its e-bikes in general, says its 100 km figure was tested with a 160 lb rider on flat ground, no cargo, pedal-assist level 1 and moderate temperatures, and puts pure-power range at “typically 35-40 km”. A full charge takes 6–8 hours on the 48V 2A charger. Our e-bike battery guide →

What warranty does it come with?

Taubik’s published warranty covers the frame for 2 years and the electrical components (motor, battery, controller, display and wiring) for 1 year, from the original retail purchase date, for the original purchaser. It excludes wear parts such as tires, brake pads and rotors, chains, cassettes, derailleurs and shifters (unless defective at delivery), and damage from overloading, unauthorized modifications, environmental exposure or missed maintenance; labour is not covered unless Taubik approves it in writing. These are Taubik’s own published terms, backed by Taubik in full, and we handle the claim with Taubik for you. Your first month of Zeus Care is included: we diagnose the problem, file the claim with Taubik and follow it up. Zeus Care plans run $119 for 1 year, $229 for 2, $339 for 3 and $599 for 5; they are a service, not added parts coverage. Returns are 15 days from delivery on unused, unopened items, with a 15% restocking fee and return shipping paid by you. Warranty & Zeus Care →
