Priority Bicycles was founded by David Weiner in New York. The brand's thesis is simple: the maintenance of a traditional bicycle (chain lubrication, chain replacement, derailleur adjustment, rust cleaning) is the primary reason people stop riding. Priority built their product line around removing those maintenance friction points: Gates Carbon Drive belt, Enviolo internally geared hub, sealed components. The eBike lineup — Glide, E-Coast, Current Plus, and Skyline SMART.SHIFT (prioritybicycles.com, verified July 2026) — extends this philosophy to electric assist.

What Is Belt Drive?

A belt-drive eBike uses a reinforced carbon fibre belt (Gates Carbon Drive) instead of a metal chain. Benefits: no lubrication required, no chain cleaning, typically lasts two to four times longer than a typical chain in independent long-term testing, and does not rust. The belt runs silently and cleanly — important for commuters who bike in work clothes.

Trade-offs for Canadian buyers: Belt replacement requires a Gates-certified shop (not all Canadian bike shops carry Gates belt parts). The frame must have a break in the chainstay to allow belt installation and replacement — Priority's frames are designed for this, but it limits third-party repair options. Verify that your nearest Canadian bike shop carries Gates Carbon Drive belts before purchasing.

Canadian Legal Status

The Current Plus uses a 500W mid-drive motor (140 Nm, torque-sensing) and ships in a 32 km/h (20 mph) assist setting — but Priority's own product page notes it "can increase to Class 3, 28MPH" (45 km/h), which exceeds the 32 km/h assist ceiling used in provincial eBike rules across Canada (the federal PAB definition was repealed in February 2021; rules are now provincial). There is no Canadian-market version. In its shipped setting it aligns with most provincial limits; in the unlocked setting it does not.

Canadian Reality — No Dealer

Priority does not ship its eBikes to Canada. The Current Plus product page states the bike "can only be shipped via Ground to the USA" (prioritybicycles.com, verified July 2026), and no Canadian dealer network was found in public sources as of July 2026. A Canadian buyer would need a US delivery address and a freight forwarder — and would still have no warranty: Priority's published policy states its warranty and returns are "valid for original owners within the contiguous United States only."
