Movin' Tempo Max
Movin’ Tempo Max — The Toyota Corolla of eBikes
In car terms, the Tempo Max is a Toyota Corolla. Not flashy. Not trying to impress anyone. Just quietly, consistently better than it needs to be — at a price that leaves competitors wondering where the catch is. A 960Wh Samsung battery (nearly double the industry standard at this price), Tektro HD E3520 hydraulic disc brakes (the same system fitted to bikes priced $300–$500 higher), a Selle Royal Gel saddle, and a factory-installed rear rack and full fenders. No upsells. No surprises. Everything is in the box.
We rode the Tempo Max in Waterloo, Ontario — summer and winter — on the same routes, in the same conditions, back to back. The hydraulics stop hard every time. The Samsung pack handles cold without the dramatic range collapse you see from unbranded cells. The Selle Royal saddle turns a 45-minute commute from something you endure into something you actually enjoy. This is a bike built by a Toronto company for Canadian riders who commute daily and need it to work every single day.
It uses a cadence sensor, not a torque sensor. The Shimano Tourney is entry-level. There is no rear suspension. We will tell you all of that. But if your priority is maximum battery and genuine hydraulic brakes at the lowest possible price — the Tempo Max is the honest answer.

Zeus eBikes Canada — Real-World Review (Waterloo, Ontario — Summer & Winter):
Zeus eBikes Canada — Test Ride:
The Tempo Max is our #2 pick in the Best Long-Range eBikes in Canada (2026) guide — the most affordable Samsung-powered long-range bike on the list.
Why 960Wh at This Price Changes the Math
Here is what most commuter eBikes at this price tier actually give you: a 500–720Wh battery with cells you cannot identify, mechanical disc brakes that cable-stretch over winter, a hard generic saddle, and a rack-sold-separately sticker. The Tempo Max breaks that pattern at every line:
- 960Wh Samsung cells — at a price where competitors offer 500–720Wh. That is 33–92% more battery for the same money. Samsung cells deliver consistent voltage curves and 800+ charge cycles to 80% — longevity competitors with unbranded packs cannot match.
- Tektro HD E3520 hydraulic disc brakes — at a price where most bikes still use mechanical. Self-adjusting pads, half the lever force, consistent stopping power in October rain and February slush.
- Selle Royal Gel Saddle “Essenza Plus” — an Italian name-brand saddle with gel padding and elastomer suspension. You notice it on rides over 20 minutes.
- Factory rear rack + full fenders — not an upsell. Mounted at the factory. On most bikes at this price, add $100–$200 for these separately.
- Dual battery option available — add a second Samsung pack for 1,920Wh total. 160–180 km rated range. For riders who want more, the option exists.
- Designed in Toronto — Movin’ Electric builds bikes for Canadian conditions first. KMC anti-rust chain, water-resistant wiring, fenders included — because it rains and salts here for half the year.
This is not a stripped-down budget bike with one good spec bolted on. Every decision on the Tempo Max was made for a rider who commutes daily in Canada and needs the bike to perform in October rain, November slush, and February cold.
Key Features
- Samsung 48V 20Ah Battery (960Wh) — The largest Samsung battery on any commuter eBike at this price tier in the Zeus lineup. 800+ cycle lifespan to 80%. The 48V 3A charger brings it from zero to full in 7–9 hours. Charge Sunday night, ride Monday to Friday. The pack is removable — bring it indoors in winter to maximise cold-weather output and protect cell chemistry overnight.
- Dual Battery Option (1,920Wh) — Add a second identical Samsung pack. 160–180 km rated range. In Canadian winter at −10°C to −20°C, expect approximately 96–130 km. For commutes over 35 km round-trip, or riders who want to charge every 3–4 days instead of daily, this is the right configuration.
- 500W Brushless Geared Hub Motor — Smooth and quiet for urban commuting. Composite nylon gears reduce noise and weight. Assists through a 32-pulse cadence sensor and responds independently to the half-twist grip throttle. At 32 km/h top speed, it moves at the pace Canadian urban infrastructure was designed for.
- Dead-Start Half-Twist Grip Throttle — Engages from a complete stop, no pedalling required. At every signalised intersection in a Canadian city, that is the difference between fumbling for your pedal and just going. Works independently of the 5 PAS levels — use one, the other, or blend both.
- Tektro HD E3520 Hydraulic Disc Brakes — 160mm Rotors — We rode this bike in Waterloo through autumn rain and winter slush. The brakes did not change. Self-adjusting pads, no cable stretch, consistent lever feel regardless of temperature. This is the safety upgrade that matters most for daily urban riding, and it is on the Tempo Max without a premium upcharge.
- Suntour Adjustable Front Suspension Fork — Preload adjustment and lockout. Absorbs potholes, frost heaves, curb transitions, and the general chaos of Canadian urban pavement after winter. Lock it out for smooth bike paths to preserve energy. Adjust it for rough roads. The Corolla has decent suspension too.
- Selle Royal Gel Saddle “Essenza Plus” with Elastomer — Selle Royal is the world’s largest saddle manufacturer. The Essenza Plus is a premium aftermarket saddle on other bikes. Here it is stock. The gel layer plus elastomer base absorb road vibration before it reaches your sit bones. On a 40-minute commute, this matters more than any spec on a datasheet.
- Factory Rear Rack + Full Fenders — Included — Not an optional extra. Factory-installed. The rack handles panniers, grocery bags, delivery bags, and bungee cargo. The full fenders keep slush and road spray off your back from October to May — essential for anyone actually using this bike to commute, not just to ride on weekends.
- 60 lbs With Battery (50 lbs Without) — Light enough to carry up a flight of apartment stairs. The removable battery drops 10 lbs for building charging. At this battery capacity, 60 lbs is excellent weight management.
- Shimano Tourney 7-Speed with Sunrace M2 Freewheel (13–34T) — Wide gear range for flat commuting and moderate hills. The most serviced groupset on earth — every bike shop has parts, every mechanic knows it. The chainring is a Zephyr 38T narrow-wide with a dual-sided chain guard for cleaner commuting.
- KMC 27 Anti-Rust Chain (118 Links) — Built for Canadian road salt. No premature chain stretch from five months of wet winter riding. This is a deliberate spec choice by a company that designs for Toronto winters, not San Diego bike paths.
- CST 26″ × 2.1″ Puncture-Resistant Tyres — Efficient on pavement, cushioned enough for urban comfort. Puncture-resistant casing handles glass, thorns, and road debris. The 26-inch wheel size rolls well on urban surfaces without the rolling resistance of fat tyres.
- Motor-Integrated Magnesium Alloy Rear Wheel — Lighter and stiffer than a traditional spoked hub motor wheel. No spokes to true, no spokes to break.
- LED Colour Display with USB Charging Port — Battery level, PAS, speed, odometer, error codes, walk mode (6 km/h). USB port charges your phone during the commute. A detail that tells you someone actually thought about daily use.
- 30 Lux Integrated LED Headlight + Brake-Activated Tail Light — Both battery-powered. The tail light brightens when you brake — alerting drivers behind you. Functional, reliable, always on when you need them.
- Wellgo LU-313 Pedals with Reflectors — Name-brand platform pedals. Not generic pot metal. Standard thread, replaceable with any standard pedal if desired.

Single Battery vs Dual Battery — Which Is Right for You?
The single battery (960Wh) is the right call for most commuters. It handles 5 days of 16–18 km round-trip commuting on one charge. In Canadian winter (−10°C to −20°C), it delivers approximately 48–65 km — enough for commutes up to 35 km round-trip even in January. Charge overnight, ride all week.
The dual battery (1,920Wh) is for riders whose commute is over 35 km round-trip, who use heavy throttle, or who want to charge every 3–4 days instead of daily. In winter, the dual battery delivers approximately 96–130 km. If you think you might outgrow the single battery, the upgrade is available at purchase — it is much easier to configure now than to retrofit later.
The rule of thumb: if your round-trip commute is under 35 km and you charge at home, the single battery is the right call. If it is longer, you throttle heavily, or you hate thinking about charge level — go dual. Read our pedal assist vs throttle guide to understand how riding style affects real-world range before deciding.
What We’d Change (Honest Take)
Zeus sells this bike because we believe in it. We also believe in telling you exactly where it trades off:
- Cadence sensor, not a torque sensor. The Tempo Max detects whether you are pedalling — not how hard. The motor delivers consistent power per assist level. It works well for relaxed flat urban commuting. It does not modulate power proportionally the way a torque sensor does. For stop-and-go flat city riding, the cadence sensor is perfectly adequate. For proportional, natural assist feel, you need to step up to a mid-drive. See our guide on how pedal assist works.
- Shimano Tourney is entry-level shifting. It works — but it is not the crisp, precise feel of a Shimano Altus or Acera. Under motor load on a hill, it will be imprecise if you shift at the wrong moment. The fix is simple habit: ease off the throttle, shift, re-engage. Serviceability is a genuine strength — every bike shop in Canada stocks Tourney parts.
- No rear suspension. The Suntour front fork takes the edge off urban terrain. But the rear is rigid. On smooth paved paths and maintained roads, you will not notice. On rough back streets and construction zones, you will feel it. The Selle Royal gel saddle compensates somewhat. If rear suspension is a priority, explore the full-suspension options in our urban collection.
- No published IP water resistance rating. The internal wiring is water-resistant and the Tektro hydraulics perform in wet conditions. The bike handles Canadian rain without issue. If a formally certified IPX rating is a requirement, confirm the current specification before purchasing.
Everything else — the 960Wh Samsung battery, the Tektro hydraulic brakes, the included rack and fenders, the Selle Royal saddle, the 60 lb weight, the dual battery option — is the best value in its class. No other bike at this price gives you all of this.

Who Is the Tempo Max Best For?
- Daily urban commuters (15–40 km round-trip) — The 960Wh pack handles 5 days of 16–18 km commuting on a single charge. The factory rack carries your bag. The hydraulic brakes handle October rain without hesitation. This is what the bike was built for. See our long-range eBike guide →
- Riders who want hydraulic brakes without a premium price tag — The Tektro HD E3520 is a genuine hydraulic system, not a marketing claim. It matters every time you stop in the rain, on a slope, in slush. At this price, finding real hydraulics is the exception — the Tempo Max makes it the rule.
- Apartment and condo dwellers — 50 lbs without the battery. The removable pack charges indoors. Light enough to carry up a flight of stairs and through narrow building corridors without planning your life around it.
- Stop-and-go city riders — The dead-start grip throttle engages from a complete stop at every traffic light. No fumbling. No momentum required. For riders navigating signals, bike lanes, and urban intersections all day, this is the feature they use most.
- First-time eBike buyers who don’t want surprises — Rack, fenders, lights, charger, pedals, tools — all in the box. No accessories rabbit hole. Unbox, charge, ride. The Corolla principle: it works the first time, and every time after that.
- Riders on flat to moderately hilly terrain — Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Halifax, Waterloo. Cities where 500W is right-sized and steep sustained climbs are the exception, not the commute.
- Riders who care about cell provenance — Samsung cells are named on the spec sheet. That matters for longevity, cold-weather behaviour, and safety. Unbranded cells are a gamble. The Tempo Max is not.
Who it’s NOT for: Riders who need a torque sensor for natural proportional assist feel (look at mid-drive options in our urban collection). Riders climbing sustained steep grades daily (500W and flat terrain go together — steep daily grades in Vancouver or Hamilton may need more motor). Off-road or gravel riders (26×2.1″ pavement tyres and a rigid rear are not trail equipment — see our fat tire guide). Riders over 250 lbs who want headroom on the 300 lb payload limit.

Choose the Tempo Max for the highest battery-per-dollar ratio in the lineup — 960Wh Samsung at this price with Tektro hydraulics and a dual-battery option. The Samebike XD26 II costs less but uses unbranded cells. The Soho 50 and Eunorau Meta cost more but ship with smaller standard batteries. If you need a torque sensor, step up to the Eunorau Meta. If you need 397 lb payload, the Samebike XD26 II has it. For maximum Samsung range at the lowest entry point, the Tempo Max is the answer.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the real-world range in Canadian winter?
Movin’ rates the Tempo Max at 80–90 km under test conditions. In Canadian winter (−10°C to −20°C), plan for approximately 48–65 km on the single battery. The 960Wh Samsung pack gives you meaningful cold-weather headroom — even at a 40% cold reduction, most urban commutes remain in range. Bring the battery indoors overnight before cold rides to protect cell chemistry and maximise morning output. The dual battery delivers approximately 96–130 km in winter.
What is the difference between single and dual battery?
Single battery: one Samsung 48V 20Ah pack (960Wh). Dual battery: two identical packs (1,920Wh). The dual battery roughly doubles your range — 160–180 km rated, approximately 96–130 km in Canadian winter. If your commute is under 35 km round-trip and you charge at home, the single battery handles your week. If you ride longer, throttle heavily, or want 3–4 days between charges, the dual upgrade is the right call. Both configurations include all the same components — brakes, saddle, fork, drivetrain.
Does it have a throttle?
Yes. A dead-start half-twist grip throttle engages from a complete stop — no pedalling needed. It operates independently of the 5 pedal assist levels. Use one, the other, or blend both mid-ride.
Does it have a torque sensor?
No. The Tempo Max uses a 32-pulse cadence sensor that detects whether you are pedalling and delivers consistent power per assist level. It works well for flat urban commuting. It does not read pedalling force, so assist is not proportional to how hard you push. If torque sensor feel is a priority, see our urban collection or read our guide on pedal assist vs throttle.
How does it perform in Canadian rain and winter?
We rode this bike through Waterloo, Ontario across summer and winter conditions. The KMC anti-rust chain handles road salt. Internal water-resistant wiring prevents corrosion from slush and spray. The Tektro hydraulic disc brakes perform consistently in wet conditions where cable-actuated mechanicals degrade. Full fenders are factory-installed. In winter, bring the battery indoors overnight. See our winter eBike guide for full seasonal tips.
How long does charging take?
The included 48V 3A fast charger charges the single 960Wh pack in 7–9 hours. The charger is universal voltage (110–240V AC) — standard Canadian outlet, no adapter needed. For the dual battery, plan for an overnight charge. Partial charges do not harm the Samsung lithium-ion cells.
Does Zeus offer free shipping and warranty?
Yes. Free Canada-wide shipping on the Tempo Max — no freight surcharges, no remote-area exceptions. Ships with a 2-year warranty and Zeus post-purchase support. Need financing? See our electric bike financing guide for payment plan options at checkout.
