A Folding Fat Bike With 85 Nm and 20×4″ Tires, and a Manual That Lists Use Down to −20 °C.

The Escape is Taubik’s earlier folding fat-tire bike, which Taubik pitches for small spaces, the trunk of a car or an RV. It lists a 500W Sutto rear hub with 85 Nm, a 48V Samsung battery with 21700 cells, Kenda Krusade 20×4″ tires, Shimano 7-speed gearing, Zoom hydraulic brakes on 180 mm rotors and a rear rack with an integrated brake light.

Taubik says the removable battery is “easily reached without the hassle of removing the seat”, and its manual adds a thumb throttle, cruise control on the display, and use from −20 °C to 60 °C (charging between 0 °C and 40 °C).

Taubik’s documents also set its limits, including a 120 kg maximum load in the manual (286 lb on the page) and two different speed figures on its page. Both are covered below.

What the Combination Does for a Rider With Little Space

  • Fold it away. Taubik says spoked wheels replaced mag wheels to cut weight and make folding easier. Folding e-bikes in Canada →
  • Fat tires on a folder. 20×4″ Kenda Krusade tires at 5–30 psi in the manual.
  • Torque for loaded starts. 85 Nm, the most of the Taubik folders we sell, with a thumb throttle.
  • Cold-weather riding on the manual’s terms. Use from −20 °C, charge indoors.

Key Features

  • 500W Sutto rear hub, 85 Nm — “500W Sutto (85 NM)” on Taubik’s page; the manual lists a “500W/48V Hub, UL approved”.
  • Cadence assist — “Cadence Sensor” on the page; “Speed Sensor” in the manual.
  • Thumb throttle and cruise control — Per the manual. Pedal assist vs throttle →
  • 48V Samsung battery — 15Ah, 21700 cells on the page; 14.7Ah with BMS, “UL approved” in the manual. Charges in 6–8 hours on the 54.6V 2A charger, between 0 °C and 40 °C.
  • Certification — Taubik’s page says the Escape is “UL2849 certified”; its manual lists the motor, battery and charger as “UL approved”. Ask us for the certificate if your building or insurer needs one.
  • Kenda Krusade 20×4″ tires — On 20″ double-walled spoked rims.
  • Shimano 7-speed — “Shimano Altus RD-M310-7-Speed” on the page; “7-speed Acera” in the manual. MF-TZ500-7 (Taubik lists it as the cassette), KMC Z7 chain.
  • Zoom hydraulic disc brakes — Dual-piston, 180 mm rotors, with motor cut-off.
  • Rear rack with integrated brake light — Per Taubik’s feature text; rated 25 kg in the manual. Headlight and kickstand (manual parts list).
  • 6061 aluminum folding frame, 17″ — Front suspension fork.

How It Arrives

Taubik’s Escape manual says the bike arrives in its carton about 75% assembled:

  • Loosened or removed for shipping: the pedals, seat, front wheel and sometimes the handlebar
  • Packed in the carton: the charger, the pedals and small parts (check the bottom of the box before you recycle it)
  • Taubik’s manual for this model: Escape manual (PDF) →

Taubik’s manual for this model says those parts “will need to be installed by a qualified technician to ensure they are secure before using your E-Bike”: ask us how that is handled for your order before your first ride. Assembly walkthroughs by phone or video are included in your first month of Zeus Care: call 1-866-938-7580.

The Honest Take: What to Know Before You Buy

  1. Taubik’s page has two speed figures. 32 km/h in the spec table and manual; “top speeds of 41km/h on off road only” and a 1000W peak in a feature paragraph. Ask us how the bike ships before you ride it on public roads.
  2. Plan around 120 kg, not 286 lb. The page says 286 lb; the manual says a maximum load of 120 kg (about 265 lb). The rack’s own limit is 25 kg.
  3. Cadence, not torque. Assist comes on once the cranks turn rather than following how hard you press; for a switchable sensor, see the Monaco S.
  4. Folding does not make it light. 30.3 kg (about 67 lb), and the English manual we read has no folding instructions: ask us for a walkthrough.
  5. Taubik’s documents disagree on details. Battery 15Ah (page) or 14.7Ah (manual); derailleur Altus (page) or Acera (manual); frame size 17″ in the spec table or 17.3″ (440 mm) on the dimension chart. We show both.

Inside those limits it is a torquey folding fat bike with a lit rack and a manual that allows cold-weather riding, from a Canadian-owned brand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the Escape or the Escape S?

This is the earlier Escape, in the colours Taubik shows on its Escape page: Black, Mauve, Olive Green, Red, Tiffany Blue and Metallic Blue. Taubik’s newer Escape S is a different model (Graphite Gray, Matte Black, Electric Blue, Matte Sage Green and Matte Clay Red on Taubik’s site), and we do not list it. For a newer Taubik folder, see the Monaco S.

Is the Escape legal on Canadian roads?

Canada has had no federal e-bike definition since the federal power-assisted-bicycle definition was repealed effective February 4, 2021. E-bike rules are provincial, and they converge on a 500W motor and 32 km/h of assisted speed (Nova Scotia’s statute says 30 km/h). Taubik’s spec table and manual list a 500W motor and 32 km/h. A feature paragraph on the same Taubik page says the motor “can reach a peak power of 1000W” and that the bike “achieves top speeds of 41km/h on off road only”. We have not confirmed how the bike is set when it ships, so ask us before you ride it on public roads, and check the rules in your province and municipality before public-road use. Our Canadian e-bike law guide →

How does it fold?

Taubik calls the Escape “a folding marvel” with “compact foldability” for small spaces, a car trunk or an RV, and says it moved from mag wheels to spokes to cut weight. The English manual we read has no folding instructions or folded dimensions, so call us and we will walk you through it before you order.

Can I ride it in winter?

Taubik’s Escape manual says: “This equipment is not intended to be used at ambient temperatures less than -20°C or above ambient temperatures of 60°C”, and that the battery should be charged only between 0 °C and 40 °C. So the manual allows riding below freezing; charge the battery indoors. Taubik’s warranty still excludes damage from prolonged exposure to rain, snow or moisture, storage in extreme cold and corrosion from salt. Our winter e-bike guide →

How far does it go on a charge?

Taubik’s page says up to 100 km. Its manual gives 70–110 km with pedal assist and 35–40 km on electric power alone. Taubik’s FAQ, written for its e-bikes in general, says its 100 km figure was measured with a 160 lb rider on flat ground, no cargo, pedal-assist level 1 and moderate temperatures. A full charge takes 6–8 hours on the 54.6V 2A charger. Our e-bike battery guide →

What is its weight limit, and how heavy is it?

Taubik’s page says 286 lb weight capacity; the manual says a maximum load of 120 kg (about 265 lb). Plan around the lower one. The rear rack is rated for 25 kg and is not for a trailer or a child seat. The bike weighs 30.3 kg on the page and in the manual.

Where are Taubik bikes made?

Taubik describes itself as “a proudly Canadian-owned electric bike company”. Its product pages, manuals and policies that we read do not say where the bikes are manufactured, so we will not guess: ask us and we will tell you what Taubik tells us.

Is there a manual, and how does it arrive?

Taubik posts the Escape manual in English and French: Escape manual (PDF) → It says the bike arrives about 75% assembled, with the pedals, seat, front wheel and sometimes the handlebar loosened or removed, and that those parts “will need to be installed by a qualified technician to ensure they are secure before using your E-Bike”. Ask us how that is handled for your order; your first month of Zeus Care also includes assembly walkthroughs by phone or video.

What warranty does it come with?

Taubik’s published warranty covers the frame for 2 years and the electrical components (motor, battery, controller, display and wiring) for 1 year, from the original retail purchase date, for the original purchaser. It excludes wear parts such as tires, brake pads and rotors, chains, cassettes, derailleurs and shifters (unless defective at delivery), and damage from overloading, unauthorized modifications, environmental exposure or missed maintenance; labour is not covered unless Taubik approves it in writing. Your first month of Zeus Care is included: we diagnose the problem, file the claim with Taubik and follow it up. Zeus Care plans run $119 for 1 year, $229 for 2, $339 for 3 and $599 for 5; they are a service, not added parts coverage. Returns are 15 days from delivery on unused, unopened items, with a 15% restocking fee and return shipping paid by you. Warranty & Zeus Care →
