Taubik Monaco
Taubik Monaco — The Easy-Mount Canadian Folder: 12.8″ Step-Through, Thumb Throttle, 720 Wh Samsung Battery
Most folding eBikes ask you to climb aboard. The Taubik Monaco asks you to step through. Its ultra-low 12.8″ (325 mm) step-over is one of the most accessible frames on any eBike at any price — you swing a leg through, not over, whether you’re in work clothes, a winter coat, or simply done lifting your knee to your hip after a long day. Then it folds, the handlebars collapse, and the whole bike tucks into a closet, a trunk, or an RV bay. Accessibility first, storage second, and a real commuter spec underneath both.
Underneath: a 500W Sutto rear hub motor (Sutto is a Bafang sub-brand) with 55 Nm of torque and a 1,000W peak, a 5-level cadence pedal-assist system, and a left thumb throttle for power without pedalling. Power comes from a genuine 48V 15Ah Samsung 21700 battery — 720 Wh, one of the larger packs you’ll find on a folder, and it lifts out with a key for warm indoor charging. Zoom dual-piston hydraulic disc brakes on 180 mm rotors, a Shimano Altus 7-speed drivetrain, a Vibee front suspension fork, and Kenda Street 20″ × 3.0″ semi-fat tires round out the ride.
And it’s equipped the way a daily bike should be, in the box: a rear cargo rack with an integrated brake light, a comfort seat with a backrest, an integrated headlight, and a colour LCD display. Taubik is a Canadian brand, the Monaco carries UL 2849 system safety certification, and at its 500W / 32 km/h setting it meets Canada’s federal Power-Assisted Bicycle rules. Max payload is a genuine 265 lb (120 kg).

📍 Road-legal in standard mode. The Monaco is rated 500W nominal and ships limited to 32 km/h with working pedals — which meets Canada’s federal Power-Assisted Bicycle (PAB) framework (500W nominal / 32 km/h / pedals required). It can be unlocked to roughly 41 km/h — but that exceeds the 32 km/h PAB limit and is for off-road or private-property use only. Provincial and municipal rules vary; confirm yours before riding. Why the Monaco Is the Folder for Riders Who Want Easy On, Easy Off, Easy Store
Folding eBikes usually sell on one idea: it gets small. The Monaco earns its place on three — it gets small, it gets low, and it comes ready to ride. Here is the reasoning behind each major part.
- Ultra-low 12.8″ step-through — the headline feature. A 12.8-inch step-over is the distance from the ground to the top of the frame where you mount. It is among the lowest on any eBike, and it is the single dimension that decides whether getting on the bike feels effortless or feels like a hurdle. For shorter riders, for anyone with hip, knee, or balance considerations, and for everyday riders in regular clothes, this is the difference between a bike you ride and a bike you avoid. See our accessibility-first picks →
- 48V 15Ah Samsung 21700 battery — 720 Wh, not a token pack. Range complaints almost always trace back to a small or low-quality battery. The Monaco uses genuine Samsung 21700 cells in a 720 Wh pack — large for a folder — rated up to 100 km. It is removable with a key lock, so you carry it inside to charge in a warm room and leave the bike in the hallway or trunk. Winter range, explained →
- 500W Sutto motor + thumb throttle — easy, legal power. The 500W Sutto hub (a Bafang sub-brand) makes 55 Nm with a 1,000W peak for confident starts, and the left thumb throttle gives you power without pedalling for hill starts and busy intersections. Because it is rated at 500W and capped at 32 km/h in standard mode, it stays inside Canada’s federal PAB definition — a real advantage over higher-powered eBikes that sit outside it. Pedal-assist vs throttle →
- Rear rack with an integrated brake light — utility and safety, standard. Most folders make you buy a rack and lights separately. The Monaco includes a rear cargo rack with the taillight built into it — and that taillight brightens when you brake, so drivers behind you read your stop the way they read a car’s. Add the integrated headlight and you are road-ready on day one. Folding eBike guide →
- Comfort seat with a backrest. Not a standard saddle — a wider seat with a small backrest that supports your lower back. On a folder’s upright posture, where more of your weight sits on the seat, that support is the difference between a 10 km ride and a 30 km one.
- Zoom dual-piston hydraulic disc brakes — 180 mm. Hydraulic stopping power that self-adjusts as pads wear and holds up in the wet, with light lever effort. On 20-inch wheels, where braking forces are concentrated, hydraulic discs are the right call over cable brakes.
- Kenda Street 20″ × 3.0″ semi-fat tires. Wider than a skinny commuter tire for more cushion and grip, narrower than a 4-inch fat tire for lower rolling resistance and weight. On 20-inch double-walled rims, the 3.0-inch contact patch also steadies a folder’s short wheelbase at low speed.
None of these are filler. Each one answers a real question a daily folder has to answer: can I get on it, can I store it, can I carry things, and will it stop and ride in Canadian conditions.
Key Features
- 500W Sutto Rear Hub Motor — 55 Nm, 1,000W Peak — A Bafang sub-brand hub motor tuned for confident starts and quiet cruising at 32 km/h. The 1,000W peak gives you headroom for hill starts and getting moving with cargo aboard.
- 5-Level Cadence Pedal Assist + Left Thumb Throttle — Choose your assist level and the motor delivers steady, predictable power whenever you pedal. The thumb throttle adds power on demand without pedalling — ideal for hill starts and easing into traffic. Throttle assist cuts off at 32 km/h.
- 48V 15Ah Samsung 21700 Battery — 720 Wh, Removable — Genuine Samsung 21700 cells in a large-for-its-class 720 Wh pack, rated up to 100 km. Lifts out with a key lock for warm indoor charging — the key to winter range and battery longevity.
- Vibee Front Suspension Fork — Front suspension takes the sting out of potholes, curbs, and rough pavement — which matters more on a folder, because 20-inch wheels transmit road impacts more sharply than larger wheels do.
- Zoom Dual-Piston Hydraulic Disc Brakes — 180 mm — Consistent, fade-resistant stopping with light lever effort and minimal maintenance, front and rear, with motor cut-off on the levers.
- Shimano Altus RD-M310 7-Speed — A proven Shimano derailleur with an MF-TZ500-7 cassette and a KMC Z7 chain. Clean shifts under moderate motor load and a gear range well matched to 20-inch wheels and a 500W motor.
- Kenda Street 20″ × 3.0″ Tires on Double-Walled Rims — The semi-fat middle ground: cushioned and grippy for mixed urban surfaces, efficient enough for daily range, on strong 20-inch double-walled spoked rims.
- Folding 6061 Aluminium Step-Through Frame — 12.8″ Step-Over — The frame folds and the handlebars collapse for closet, trunk, or RV storage, and the ultra-low 12.8-inch step-through is one of the most accessible on the market. Rust-free 6061 aluminium for Canadian conditions.
- Rear Cargo Rack with Integrated Brake Light — A real rack for panniers, a grocery bag, or a pack — with the taillight built in, and that light brightens under braking so traffic reads your stop.
- Comfort Seat with Backrest — A wider, supportive seat with a small backrest for the upright posture of a folder — built for people who sit on the bike longer than they stand on the pedals.
- Colour LCD Display + Integrated Headlight — A clean colour readout for speed, assist level, battery, and trip data, plus an integrated headlight wired to the main battery — no add-on lights to charge.
- UL 2849 System Certification — The Monaco’s electrical system carries UL 2849 certification, with UL-certified Samsung battery cells — the safety standard that matters most on the most expensive component on any eBike.
- 265 lb (120 kg) Max Payload — Genuine capacity for rider plus a loaded rack.

What You Should Know Before Buying (Honest Take)
- It’s a cadence sensor, not a torque sensor. The Monaco’s 5-level assist is cadence-based: it gives a steady amount of power per level whenever you pedal, rather than scaling power to how hard you push. Most riders find cadence assist relaxed and easy. But if you want effort-proportional, exercise-like power delivery, a torque-sensor folder like the Velotric Fold 1 Plus (with its switchable cadence/torque SensorSwap) is the better tool. Sensor types explained →
- 55 Nm is moderate torque. It’s well matched to a folder on flat-to-rolling urban terrain and easily handles everyday hills for most riders. Heavier riders tackling steep, sustained climbs will want more torque — see our best eBikes for hills guide.
- The Vibee fork is basic suspension, not a tuned trail fork. It softens potholes, curbs, and rough pavement — exactly what a city folder needs — but it’s not the air-sprung, lockout-equipped fork you’d find on a mountain bike. For urban and path riding, it’s the right amount of suspension.
- ~68.5 lb is real weight to lift. The big 720 Wh battery, the rack, and the suspension fork add up. Folding makes it manageable for a trunk or a closet, and the battery lifts out (drop a few pounds) before you carry it — but carrying the whole bike up a flight of stairs is a genuine lift. Plan for an elevator or ground-floor storage.
- 20″ × 3.0″ tires are semi-fat, not fat tires. They handle cleared, salted winter roads and light slush, but they don’t float over deep snow or soft sand the way 4.0-inch fat tires do. For uncleared winter routes, look at a fat-tire option in our fat-tire eBike guide.
- Single frame size. The Monaco comes in one 16.1-inch frame. The ultra-low step-through and adjustable seat post cover a wide height range, but the cockpit reach is compact — the tallest riders (near or above 6′2″) should confirm fit first. Call us and we’ll help.
- The ~41 km/h unlock is off-road only. In standard 32 km/h mode the Monaco meets the federal PAB framework. The higher-speed unlock exceeds the 32 km/h PAB limit and is for private property or off-road use — know your local rules before you change the setting.
Will It Fit You? — Frame & Accessibility
The Monaco is built in a single 16.1″ (410 mm) frame with an ultra-low 12.8″ (325 mm) step-over and an adjustable seat post. Standover is the dimension that decides whether mounting feels effortless — and at 12.8 inches, the Monaco clears that bar by a wide margin.
| Dimension | Measurement | What It Tells You |
|---|---|---|
| Frame size | 16.1″ / 410 mm | Single size, broadened by the adjustable seat post |
| Step-over height | 12.8″ / 325 mm | Ultra-low — step through, don’t climb over |
| Wheel size | 20″ | Compact, stable, easy to fold and store |
| Frame material | 6061 aluminium (folding) | Rust-free for Canadian winter storage |
| Net weight | ~68.5 lb / ~31 kg | Folds for transport; remove the battery before lifting |
| Max payload | 265 lb / 120 kg | Rider plus a loaded rack |
Rider Fit Guidance (Zeus estimate)
Taubik publishes the frame size and step-over above; the height bands below are Zeus fitting guidance based on the low step-through and the adjustable seat post, not a manufacturer spec. When in doubt, call us before you order.
- 5′0″ – 5′4″: Excellent fit — the low step-over is friendlier to shorter riders than almost any folder on the market.
- 5′5″ – 5′10″: The sweet spot — comfortable seat-post range and an upright, easy posture.
- 5′11″ – 6′2″: Comfortable with the seat post raised; expect a more upright position than a stretched full-size frame.
- Above 6′2″: Test the cockpit reach first — on a folder, reach (not seat height) is what limits taller riders. A full-size step-through such as the Taubik Vista 26 may suit you better.

Who it’s NOT for:
- Riders who want torque-sensor power delivery. The Monaco is cadence-only. For switchable cadence/torque, see the Velotric Fold 1 Plus →.
- Deep-snow or soft-sand riders. The 3.0″ semi-fat tires aren’t fat tires — see the fat-tire guide → for flotation.
- Heavy riders on steep, sustained climbs. 55 Nm is moderate; for big hills and more torque, see best eBikes for heavy riders →.
- Apartment dwellers without an elevator. At ~68.5 lb, the Monaco is a real lift up stairs even folded — plan for ground-floor storage or a lift.
- The tallest riders. Above ~6′2″, confirm the cockpit reach first — a full-size Taubik Vista 26 → may fit better.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Taubik Monaco have a throttle?
Yes — a left thumb throttle that delivers motor power up to 32 km/h without pedalling, alongside the 5-level cadence pedal assist. It’s handy for hill starts, easing into traffic, and finishing a ride when your legs are tired. A federal PAB in Canada may have a throttle as long as assist cuts off at 32 km/h, but provincial and municipal throttle rules vary — confirm yours. Throttle vs pedal-assist →
Is the Taubik Monaco road-legal in Canada?
In standard mode, yes. At 500W nominal and a 32 km/h assist cap with working pedals, the Monaco meets Canada’s federal Power-Assisted Bicycle (PAB) framework. It can be unlocked to roughly 41 km/h, but that exceeds the 32 km/h PAB limit and is for off-road or private-property use only. Provincial and municipal rules vary — confirm before every public ride. Canadian eBike laws by province →
What is the real range of the Monaco?
The 720 Wh Samsung 21700 battery is rated up to 100 km in ideal conditions. As a Zeus real-world estimate, plan on ~55–90 km in summer at moderate assist, and roughly 25–35% less below −5°C. The pack is removable — store and charge it indoors in winter for the best range and longest battery life. Winter range, explained →
Cadence or torque sensor — which does it use?
A cadence sensor with 5 assist levels, plus the thumb throttle. Cadence assist gives steady, predictable power per level whenever you pedal — relaxed and easy. It doesn’t scale to pedal force the way a torque sensor does; for that, look at the switchable-sensor Velotric Fold 1 Plus.
Is it good for condo living?
Yes — that’s a core use case. It folds, the handlebars collapse, the 12.8″ step-through makes it easy to manoeuvre, and the Samsung battery lifts out with a key to charge at an indoor outlet. A folder with a removable, UL-certified battery is the answer where buildings restrict full-size eBike storage and charging.
What size is it, and will it fit me?
One 16.1″ frame with an ultra-low 12.8″ step-over and an adjustable seat post. As a Zeus fitting estimate, that suits most riders from about 5′0″ to 6′2″. On a compact folder, reach (not seat height) limits the tallest riders — if you’re near or above 6′2″, call 1-866-938-7580 first.
Is the battery removable, and how do I charge it safely?
Yes — it lifts out with a key lock for warm indoor charging. Always use the charger supplied with the bike; mismatched aftermarket chargers and batteries are the leading cause of eBike fires per Toronto Fire Services data. Charge on a hard surface away from exits and unplug once full.
Does the Monaco come with a warranty?
Yes — Taubik covers the frame for 2 years and the electrical components for 1 year against defects in materials and workmanship, plus a complimentary 1-month Zeus coordination warranty (extended Zeus plans available). Claims run through Zeus as your selling dealer — keep your proof of purchase. Consumables, accident or misuse damage, modifications, and normal battery capacity loss are excluded. Zeus warranty page →
Are there reviews for the Taubik Monaco?

How do I finance the Monaco?
Multiple options at checkout: Klarna Pay-in-4 (0% interest, 4 biweekly payments), Shop Pay Instalments (0% interest, no credit check), or PayPlan by RBC for monthly payments over 3–60 months. Full financing guide →
